Top review from mto75:

"the 16 years in American oak are already very noticeable on the nose. With the oak barrel then also comes the accompanying vanilla flavor, plus some caramel. The alcohol also stings a bit on the nose. On the palate, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted flavors. Impression as with the Nobilis (No.16) 2004 South Pacific: unfortunately rather below average and far from the great 2001 bottlings."

"Quite unspectacular on the nose, but what comes on the palate is great: fruity profile, supported by the dark notes, malt, coffee, cask,"

Top review from Frank:

"From the very first Mhoba, I have loved this distillery with its very own rum profile. This one matured for the whole 4 years in a South African whisky cask - maybe Bains? Nose: clear Mhoba profile, fermented fruit with honey and yogurt. Overripe banana and papaya and slightly vegetal towards olive. There is also the typical funk, which is noticeable with fruit esters and vinegar. To be honest, I don't notice the whisky cask here. But, as always, good. 8.4 Palate: yes, now the whisky does stand out. The classic Mhoba seems a little more tannic, coarser. But the basis is again fermented fruit and honey with a slightly bitter-salty attack. Ester and banana. It does seem a little dry. Am I deceiving myself or is there a little soap in the finish? 8,0 I actually don't like the whisky cask that much, even though it adds a distinctly different note to the usual Mhoba flavor."

Top review from X-Savior:

"On The Rocks: On the nose moderate sweet floral notes with some mild spice and oak. Taste reveals a very up front smooth spice with some fruit and floral notes that evolves into a mild whiskey and red wine undertone. This is such a beautiful example of a traditional Barbados rum that is incredibly smooth and complex. Finish is long with the sweet spice evolving into a mild treacle bitterness. An absolutely outstanding rum."

Top review from Beancheese:

"This one has lots of warm spice on the nose, vanilla and cinnamon, with a caramel sweetness. On the palate this is fairly straightforward - burnt sugar, oak, vanilla again. While it has some sweetness, it is relatively dry and has some medium heat - this should appeal to bourbon drinkers and folks that enjoy Foursquare rums."

Top review from BigFlax:

"For a molasses rum, it starts pleasantly grassy like an agricole, although it gets “darker” after some breathing time and begins to hint at burnt sugar. Some nice peppery spice notes with hints of nutmeg and a pineapple character. Medium length greener finish."

Top review from Beancheese:

"What a wild ride this rum is. Right away the nose hit me with olive brine and nail polish remover, so much so that I almost couldn’t get past it. I could try to find other notes hiding behind there but it was just so overwhelmingly true to those two items that it felt like I was ‘trying’ to find something more. Both of these notes hold true and dominate on the palate as well, although this funky rum has a bit more going on. Behind the salty olive brine and acetone there was also permanent marker, a bit of something peaty or smoky, some mild licorice like spice. This was a wildly interesting way to sample my first rum from Reunion but I would never catch myself drinking this as a regular sipper. I think an imaginative mixer could make great use of this in a cocktail however and it is perfect for nerding out. I will score it 6.5 because it’s just not my palate if I was looking for something to enjoy sipping - but it’s so curious and fun that the ‘experience’ of trying it could be 8+"
