New Grove Single Cask Rum (Fine Spirits)
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
New Grove Savoir Faire Single Cask
Top review from Tim :
"Wow, on the nose it reminds me of a Guyana rum or even a Foursquare, with citrus fruits and other fruits such as peach being dominant here, especially if you give it enough time to breathe. Lots of roasted chocolate, caramel, wood and all kinds of fruit. Very pleasant in the mouth, despite 60°. Complex rum, at a more than fair price!"

Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Ever since @crazyforgoodbooze got me hooked on Mauritius at the 11th GRF, I've been trying to get to know the country's rums better. With this one, I like the expressive blackcurrant note on the palate. A really pleasant rum, but with an unremarkable nose and a short finish that can't match the Grays from Perola (RX12865) from the same year. Update 2023-07-02: I must have had a bad day at the first tasting, only 82 points just doesn't do the rum justice. Now, at the second tasting, it has a super-long, fruity and woody finish. The impressive red rum now gets a well-deserved 86 points. Pretty good PLV for a single cask and still available, wonderful. Update 2024-03-16: Used as a benchmark rum against two other New Grove single casks and more than lives up to its role. In the meantime I have to say, even better than the 2009 bottling. Amazing Mauritius!"

"#4905 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Balanced, light wood, faint roasted, dried fruit, spices, faint earthy, light cinnamon, faint caramel. Palate Round, oily, balanced, light wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light caramel, faint nutts, spices, light tea, berries, faint mint. Finish Medium to long, balanced, light wood, fruits, light berries, light caramel, spice, faint mint, light herbal. This is a really nice bottling and I liked it a lot. Really well balanced profile and I think most can drink it."

Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Only one review so far. We were very excited about this apparently rare bottling and were not disappointed. Well, it's really very restrained on the nose, but on the palate! 😋 An aromatic journey around the globe, great. Atypical, but very good New Grove. Update 2024-04-18: A rum that's really completely out of the ordinary. And I mean that in a very positive way. You really meander around aimlessly and then can't classify it. Not to mention its association with New Grove. A rum like a secret."
Mauritius (Perola)
Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"Clearly milder and more drinkable than the 11y old without finish. The additional 20 months in the Armagnac finish have softened the rum perfectly and taken him some of the edges. The 11y is clearly more funky and intense, this one is clearly more harmonious but still with enough power. Exciting are the light peachy / apricot notes with eucalyptus and dark chocolate with cappuccino, cinnamon, nutmeg and nuts, as well as some lemon zest and at the very end comes back to me the characteristic menthol / grapefruit peel note. I also like very well, almost a little better depending on the mood!😁🥳Anyway, both bottlings are imho absolute Mauritius Gray's benchmarks!👌🏽"

Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:

"#4815 16.08.2024 Having a relaxing afternoon and evening with Joël from Switzerland. Nose Intense, light wood, vegetal, ester, light pineapple, Agricole, fresh. Palate Light oily, intense, light wood, Agricole, dry, fresh, fruity, light pineapple, faint citrus. Finish Medium to long, fresh, light wood, fruits, light citrus, faint chocolate. The empty glass has light coffee and some caramel."
New Grove Emotion
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"It is rare, far too rare, to discover a diamond among pebbles. And if it happens by chance, it's all the more incredible. But it actually happened with this rum! I'm still blown away. The rum already promises a lot on the nose and reminds me of an old Demerara. So tempting that I can't wait to taste it. Very fruity on the palate, overripe blackcurrants? The alcohol is more perfectly integrated than I have ever experienced with any other rum. The maximum has really been extracted from the 47% vol. The only small drawback: a slight lack of depth and intensity due to the low ABV. But such a small "impurity" is easy to get over with such a fine diamond, isn't it? Top rum under the radar. Update 2023-10-06: The rum remains a top product for me, but has found its champion in the Savoir Faire 2009 with 60% (RX2744). Update 2023-10-18: Tasting again against the RX2744, this time direct. And I have to say that a direct comparison is really enlightening - and doesn't end well for the Emotion 1969 ... It seems like the league leader of the 2nd division playing at the top level in its class against a Champions League team ... 🙄 Try it out and you'll find it confirmed. RumX Advent calendar 09.12.2023 (blind tasting) I wrote in the appropriate place before solving the puzzle: Yes, on the nose I'm also more with FS, although what's amazing here is that you really perceive zero alcohol! A completely different rum on the palate: Not warm-caramel like on the nose, but clearly red-fruity and a little spicy. And what do I always associate with red fruit? That's right, Mauritius! Since this rum is not an alcohol monster, but rather under 50% vol. I'm guessing RX2495. Of course, it could also be another New Grove from Grays with around 45% vol. as there are still a few around ... Or maybe even a TDL. In any case, I like the rum very much. :yum::yum::yum:"
New Grove Savoir Faire Single Cask (20 Vin)
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Still restrained on the nose, so that you don't really recognize New Grove, but the rum really gets going on the palate! Heavy fruity and woody at the same time, warm and incredibly complex, a feast for the palate! I really like this rum, it ranks right up there with the New Groves. If the nose wasn't so restrained, it would even be at the top of my list. As the 20Vin stores are only available in Mauritius, my decision is clear: I will return there and look for this rum! 😊 Update 2024-04-29: This really is a particularly good rum. Today I didn't find it at all restrained on the nose, which is why the rum now gets one more point. The incarnation of New Grove, I love these aromas! Update 2024-06-18: Yes, I made it and brought myself the rum from Mauritius, Grays delivery service delivered it free to my door there. 🤗 That's the good news. It is somewhat clouded by the fact that the rum unfortunately loses out to the top New Grove 2009 (RX2744) in the crosstasting: On the palate, it simply has too few watts to keep up with the Croesus; after all, more alcohol transports more flavors. But it is still a top product from Grays, especially for the incredible price of just EUR 50 for an SC. 😍"
S.B.S Mauritius
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This weekend was very busy because I've been building a new shelf system for my 250+ bottles so my Saturday and Sunday tastings haven't been added :-) Wow, just wow. This is a spicy rum with a nice kick to it. Rest for 30 minutes and enjoy with a 70% dark chocolate. "

Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Another rum from my new favorite distillery Grays. And this rum does not disappoint at all, the opposite is the case: he inspires (me)! Just look at the color of the rum in the bottle! 😍 Wonderfully dark, hard to believe in a rum from the year 2009. (Was there but helped?) Anyway, a very, very pleasant-balanced rum, deep, spicy, fruity, the for me identity-creating currant note may not be missing. Round thing, alcohol well integrated, acceptable PLV - recommendation especially for all who like to walk off the beaten path."
New Grove Single Cask
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Very pleasant rum. Red fruits, but hardly the expected TDL mint. The rum is not challenging, drinks away like this, daily sipper. The really excellent integration of the alcohol should be emphasized. I bought it after carefully reading the reviews here and was not disappointed. A nice addition to my New Grove library."
Single Estate Rum
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"I'll make it short: You can rely on Frank's ratings. His assessment of this rum has made me curious. I got myself a sample and did not regret it, on the contrary - now I have to get a bottle. Exceptionally successful distillate of the little-known distillery Saint Aubin on Mauritius (which is always worth a visit). I can only unreservedly agree with the assessment of Frank. Delicious!"
The Nectar Of The Daily Drams LMDW
Top review from Jakob:
"Very unexpected flavor profile - the port finish works excellently here and brings out a wonderfully complex spectrum of aromas. Wood, tobacco, menthol paired with dense fruit sweetness, which offers both the heavy depth of the port wine and fresh nuances. Really delicious, Grays is slowly becoming an insider tip for me."
Mauritius MCPA
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Typical rhum from the "waterfall distillery". 😉 Pleasant, sweet nose, slightly softer on the palate, but still drinkable, alcohol quite well integrated. Appears older. However, a normal Chamarel XO is unlikely to be any worse ..."
XO Moscatel Cask Finish
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This moscatel cask finished Chamarel is pretty good considering the price tag. The nose is fruity and has vanilla and ginger to it. In the background I can get tobacco. The palate is creamy with dried fruits and spices topped with wood from the barrel. The finish is long and well balanced with plum and oak. "
New Grove Savoir Faire Single Cask (Smuggler)
Top review from cigares :
S.B.S Mauritius French Oak & Chestnut Wood
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:

Finish Medium to long, wood, faint smoke, spice, medium spicy, fruits, light orange, faint caramel."

New Grove Savoir Faire Double Cask Acacia
Top review from Rowald Sweet Empire:
"Interesting wood finish. I get a lot of cherries/sour cherries (maybe some Haribo Cherries too). The fruits and the wood is battling but keep each other in check. Some spices come through. A menthol freshness. Interesting and well made. Tasted it again on Christmas 2022. New packaging, which looks more retro than the old one. Still impressed. Lots of oak. Cognac. Good"
Highveld Ageing Series Oloroso Cask
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This is like the 2012 release also in a nice bottle and equally good. The nose is intense and fruity with spices and light herbal, earth and woody notes. If you leave the empty glass you will also get chocolate notes after a while. The palate is fruity with caramel, vanilla and light wood, tobacco and herbal notes. The finish is medium long with wood, caramel, chocolate and raisin. I recommend leaving the empty glass for a few hours and then whif it again. Again, love that they kept a high ABV."

Top review from zabo:
"Edit: let it stand again and observe the development a little. Unfortunately, I have to correct it downwards. Unfortunately, it's not more than mediocre First of all, thanks for introducing the rums from Mauritius Gunnar. For me, it's better on the nose than on the palate. It seems a little thin and doesn't last long. Unfortunately, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. For the price that is being asked, there are far better rums from Mauritius that were included in the package for cheaper money. This whisky finish also ruins things."

Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"outstanding Mauritius rum. quasi the high-end version of the Lazy Dodo, with significantly more mint, menthol, grapefruit peel, allspice and some currant that go hand in hand in taste and nose. the acacia wood adds a nice spice and not too much woodiness and the port wine finish makes everything very very creamy, palatable and round. i will buy it for sure! great price performance and for me a new reference rum from Mauritius with an incredibly good PLV."

Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"Incredibly awesome & super complex nose. Herbal tea, cherry candy, gingerbread & black pepper, burnt sawdust & coconut shavings.... Flavor then much drier than expected. Bit like salted nut butter, cold tea, em-eukal cherry!, raisins, dried cherries & currants, nutmeg and Williams pear barrel aged. Sau exciting, absolutely not too thin, extremely complex and intense. You just have to give it some time then it really shows what it can do!"
New Grove Double Cask Moscatel
Top review from Tim :
"I really like this one! Characterized by dry spices, strong wood and deep fruit flavors, all rounded off by sweet caramel. What makes it special is the fruity note, which is very reminiscent of fig in the mouth. Paired with the bitter chocolate and delicious caramel: exciting, delicious and very round! Price also good!"
New Grove Savoir Faire Double Cask Merisier
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Rote-Früchte-Tee mit Schuss. Passt! Und dass hier als zweites Fass das sehr seltene Holz der Wildkirsche (Merisier) verwendet wird, sollte noch einmal explizit hervorgehoben werden. Wann hat man das schon mal?"

Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"Reißt mich nicht vom Hocker. Schmeckt irgendwie seltsam. Nach hinten raus zu alkoholisch. Update 2024-08-13: Deutlich süffiger als bei der ersten Verkostung. Das Port-Finish kommt jetzt auch gut durch und rundet den Rum ab. Aufwertung um 4 Punkte auf 80."
