Show all Foursquare rumsFoursquare Rum Distillery is located on a former sugar plantation that dates back to approximately 1720. The distillery was re-opened by the Seale family in 1996, distilling operations and blending are currently directed by Richard Seale, 4th Generation Trader/Distiller of R.L. Seale & Co, who joined the family company in 1993. Since Foursquare is a family-owned company, they are not part of a global group and create their very own type of Rum. Authenticity is very important to Seale, so transparency is a key factor for his products. Typically they produce a Rum, that is a blend of Column Still and Pot Still Rum after two days of fermentation. For aging they usually use Ex-Bourbon Casks, typically for the Carribeans. In their Exceptional Cask Selection Series (ECS) they do have many other expressions with several Cask-Types (e.g. Sherry, Zinfandel, Port or Cognac). Famous brands in various pricing areas produced here are: Foursquare Rum, Doorly’s, The Real McCoy, R.L. Seale, Rum Sixty Six but also many independent bottler select Foursquare Rums for their releases. Most known for their close cooperation with Foursquare is Velier with their famous head Luca Gargano. Seale and Gargano have a very strong bond of friendship and released some world-famous bottlings, especially interesting for collectors but also drinkers, such as the Destino 70th Anniversary (RX635) or the 2006 (RX168). For beginners their bottlings of Doorly’s, such as the Doorly’s 12 (RX212) or the yearly released cask-strength Vintage Editions such as Foursquare 2009 (RX10082) can be used as a travel into unaldurated, tropically-aged Barbadian rum. Those are widely available and come at a relatively fair pricing. Seale is an active member on various social media platforms, aswell. He is advocating for unaldurated rum and higher transparency in the whole industry, as well as higher producing standards on the island of Barbados.
Top rated rums from Foursquare
Destino
Top review from Oliver:
"One can directly recognize the Foursquare DNA. Compared to other bottlings, however, an uncanny complexity and depth awaits, reminiscent of tropically aged Demerara bottlings. On the palate, round, nutty-spicy, intense, multilayered with a great sweetness. Similar to the 2006 just a touch more complex. Best Foursquare so far. A real firework in the mouth - Love it!"
Plenipotenziario
Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"An extremely tasty number that is dominated above all by the floral tones of rose and Thai flying mango, which then alternate with nutty and chocolaty aromas. Mega exciting, extremely palatable and a complexity like this is very rare with Foursquare. Absolutely outstanding for me! It has become one of my favorite sipping rums. I think this could really be my absolute favorite Foursquare!"
Absolutio
Top review from zabo:
"First impression: Oh yes!!! After the failure with the Raconteur, which I personally didn't like that much, only the Absolutio. The combination of bourbon and port barrel works really well in my opinion. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Nice and soft and velvety to drink, beautiful dark color and pretty curtains in the glass. At 179€, it's also cheaper than its predecessor. From what I remember of the Velier Foursquare Crosstasting, it stands out from the others and would be at the top of my list. I think this will be my new favorite Foursquare."
Triptych
Top review from DomM:
"Velier FS (+ a fee spected other contenders) blind cross tasting: Honestly, the results here were very close. The Belier bottlings display a very high quality thourgout the range. Triptych and Pleni came out on top for me closely followed by Destino. I was somewhat surprised, that Sassafras and 2006 came out rather at the bottom, while I enjoyed both very much on their own. Raconteur also quite low in the ranking with Principia clearly at the bottom."

Exceptional Cask Selection XX Isonomy
Top review from Jakob:
"The high age suits the rum well and brings thanks to the wood influence still a little more vanilla melt from the bourbon barrels. Also overall with recognizable proximity to American whiskies with fresh oak, present spice of pepper, cinnamon and cloves, concise toffee, dried fruit and subtle minerality. Very good Foursquare representative."
Exceptional Cask Selection XIII 2008
Top review from Tim :
"Smells really intense and delicious of fruit, caramel, vanilla and spices, although a little like solvent, which disappears after a while. Super round. This rum is heavy and strong on its own, but absolutely mild with a little water. Goes down like oil. Unfortunately, I don't get as much chocolate here, but lots of caramel/cream toffee, fruit and spices. The bourbon influence is there. Very round, tasty and complex rum, you can't complain much :-)"
Exceptional Cask Selection XIX Sovereignty
Top review from SaibotZtar :
"Beginning somewhat alcoholic nose... Sherry comes through well makes it more fruity and slightly sweeter in comparison ... After a bit of time in the glass, the spiciness fades a bit and it seems more harmonious ... The sherry cask has done a good job and brings mMn the typical Foursquare character something forward and makes it different (which is very welcome in view of the countless bottlings) prices beyond the 100€ I see as excessive."
Exceptional Cask Selection XV Redoutable
Top review from Oliver:
"Wonderful rum from the Foursquare distillery! Spicy, full-bodied and delicious. In the nose surprise floral notes, which I did not know from Foursquare so. From the profile it goes towards really good Tropical Guyana Column! Very good!"
Exceptional Cask Selection XII Nobiliary
Top review from Fasen :
"Wow. It is the greediness has the raw state! Well balanced, we are directly alpaguered by a huge pastry side (Crème brûler / Butterscotch / Cake / Vanilla / Chocolate / Brown sugar), it is very fat (Coconut / Walnut / Butter), we have some red fruits well sweetened this strolling in the mouth with their friends the dried fruits (Dried Apricots / Prunes). The woody is fine and greedy too and comes to structure this mouth with a touch of cooking and a slightly toasted side (Roasted coconut). A real cake this rum with power and a good grip in mouth, a killer!"
Principia
Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"Holy moly the claps neatly! But very horny and intense. Strong mocha, vanilla bean, raisin, discreet sherry and rum raisins, dark chocolate with fleur de sel and espresso beans and then again coconut and banana chips. Only the alcohol could be better integrated. Aromatically, however, it is really fun!"
Exceptional Cask Selection III 2004
Top review from Jakob:
"Gets me a subjective sympathy point in addition, because the high-percentage Foursquare profile at the time was definitely something new, which has caused enthusiasm. But also regardless of that, an excellent representative of the typical Foursquare profile."
Exceptional Cask Selection XVII 2009
Top review from Galli33:
"Very good Foursquare (i would say better as the 2007). Spicy and oaky like a classic foursquare with a dominant note of cocoa. Nose: Glue, Oak, Spicy, Vanilla, coconut, trop fruits, dried fruits, raisin Mouth: Warm, Complex, balanced, full bodied, strong, round, trop. fruits, caramel, spicy, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted, tobacco Finish: Medium, tobacco, coconut, sweet, toffee, roasted, cocoa, vanilla, toated, oak, coffee"
Exceptional Cask Selection XVI Shibboleth
Top review from Galli33:
"My personal winner of todays FS tasting shibb>2009>empery. This one has the best round overall feeling. Alcohol is integrated better than in others. All in all, all three are very similar in tastes/smells. Nose: solvents, dried fruits, coconut, raisin, carmel, butterscotch, woody, oak, roasted nuts, cashews Mouth: dry, sharpness, round, elegant, full bodied, complex, balanced, coconut, raisin, dried fruit, caramel Finish: Medium, dry, round, dried fruits, sweet, caramel, oak(barrel), vanilla, roasted nuts, cocoa, dark chocholate roasted"
Exceptional Cask Selection VI 2005
Top review from Jakob:
"Really good vintage representative. Much influence bom ex-bourbon cask, which suits Foursquare well and results in abundant vanilla, chocolate, pepper, allspice and caramel notes. Very good representative of the archetypal Foursquare profile."

Exceptional Cask Selection XXI 2010
Top review from DomM:
"Another high quality bottling out of the „vintage“ ECS range at a very good price point. Delivers the classic Foursquate notes at a high ABV (ie high intensity), providing a nice sipping experience. Side-by-side with the 2011 ECS, this one has more glue-y notes on the nose alongside the classic FS profile. Similar in the palate: more punch versus the 2011, ie a bit less balance and a little more demanding."
Exceptional Cask Selection X 2007
Top review from Joachim Guger:
"Typical Fourquare profile at a high level.Strong on caramel this time, little tropical fruit and little wood ripeness. Very nice and fine spice. Not too lush.A few drops of water do not hurt. For me one of the better FS, a good high-end sipper, but novel is something else."
Exceptional Cask Selection XXII Touchstone
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"Overall a great Foursquare ECS rum. Mr Richard Seale have done it again. I tasted it the Swedish importer’s, Lars Renbjer’s, stand at the Stockholm Beer & Spirits Fair 2023. Touchstone is a molasses based double-aged pot- and column blended rum aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Cognac casks for 14 years. It consists of two components. The first component, a 2008 ex-bourbon aged distillate which was filled in ten former Cognac Camus casks in 2020, then 12yo, to mature for almost 3 years more. The second component was aged for 5 years in ex-Bourbon casks and 9 more years in ex-Cognac casks."
Exceptional Cask Selection XIV Détente
Top review from Tim :
"Delicious nose of vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, chocolate and harmonious fruits like banana, raisin and coconut. In the mouth by the slightly lower ABV mildly sweet after caramel, yet naturally peppery, toasted and many spices. Fruit also present, which is overlaid by bitter chocolate and toasty caramel in the finish. Top rum with restrained port finish, at that time at a very good price, but today difficult to still get."
Exceptional Cask Selection XI Sagacity
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"It’s number eleven in the Foursquare EC Series. It consists of a blend from both Pot and Coffey stills distillate aged for twelve years in by ex-Bourbon and ex-Madeira casks before blended at ABV 48%. Overall an intense, complex, pleasant and any other superlatives that comes to your mind."
Exceptional Cask Selection IX Empery
Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"very tasty foursquare, nice coffee & cocoa note! This is definitely daily easy sipping material. Extremely round and drinkable. The port barrel harmonizes very well with the rum without making it sweeter, but brings in nice notes of figs, citrus, tobacco and tannins. Very horny number."
Exceptional Cask Selection XVIII Indelible
Top review from crazyforgoodbooze:
"Very nice sipping foursquare. The zinfandel red wine barrel brings nice notes of red fruits, cinnamon and tannins and harmonizes very well. Yummy! Could only have a tad more steam...But probably the best what was foursquare rums so far in zinfandel casks gefinished!I like surprisingly well! It does not always have to be barrel strength ..."
Exceptional Cask Selection VIII Premise
Top review from Jakob:
"For me, this is one of the best sipping rums from Foursquare. Various other releases at cask strength have already shown that Foursquare harmonizes well with ex-sweet wine casks, and here is proof of this at reduced drinking strength."
Doorly‘s 14 Years
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"The nose on this rum is really nice and it may remind you of some of the Last Ward rums, not as complex but very well balanced. The palate has been perfectly rounded with the perfect proof. So no alcohol dominance but a perfect balance. The orange really shines through and the price to quality is very good. "
Barbados
Top review from cigares :
"The nose is a little too alcoholic, with pineapple, raisins, vegetal and pastry notes. On the palate, the alcohol attacks strongly, then the other aromas emerge: tropical fruit, menthol, licorice. Short finish, but this rum is only two years old, with a certain buttery sweetness. A rum that lacks complexity and, above all, depth."
Finest Barbados Rum
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"One of the best Bajan standard rums to a very competitive price in a spectacular bottle. The nose is subtle and round with aromas of fruits and vanilla. At the palate it’s delicious, fruity and spicy with flavors of tropical fruits, vanilla and cinnamon."
Doorly‘s 12 Years
Top review from cigares :
"A rum tasted at the Lucerne Gin and Rum Festival 2024. A nose of marzipan and spices with coconut and wood. Toasted hazelnuts appear on the palate, along with dried and yellow fruits. The finish is rather short, with bitterness, wood and spices. I like it less than the XO, as the wood is more pronounced."
LFT White
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"Overall a very interesting rum from Foursquare which is partly reminiscent of white Jamaica rum and Rivers Antoine. My good friend Björn “Romsoffan” offered me a glass of this somehow different Foursquare at Foursquare Appreciation Day, released by Habitation Velier. It’s what Richard Seale call, a Long Fermentation Type (LFT). It’s a Pot Still from both molasses and cane juice with Esters 555 gr/hlpa, which is the same level as HLCF from Jamaica."
