"Ok now we are getting into the slightly more premium side of Karukera as this bottle will set you back about 100⏠today. Lots of wood and barrel on nose and palate. Well-integrated alcohol. ABV is just right here, not sure it could support more but definitely wouldn't want less either. The bitter note, which I'm starting to suspect is a Karukera signature, is present but is much better and more enjoyable than in the 2009 select cask. Very noticeable caramel. Medium to short finish. Price to quality is mediocre, but it's a very enjoyable rum nevertheless."

"#4637 08.03.2024 Tasting with Romhatten. Nose Light wood, floral, sugarcane, caramel, fruity, dried fruit, cognac, grass. Palate Dry, wood, light roasted, warm, fruity, raisin, tannins, floral, grass, light coffee, faint chocolate. Finish Long, dry, warm, wood, dried fruit, light caramel. Very good ABV integration, but a but boring to be honest."

"08.12.2018 Had a wonderful meet up with old and new friends at this wonderful hotel. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: fresh, wood, roasted, fruit, vegetal, spice. Palate: round, oily, wood, spicy, earthy, dried fruit, light coffee. Finish: medium to long, wood, vegetal, light chocolate, faint caramel."

"I'm curious and definitely have to try more of Karukera, I've heard some good things; but this one is a bit thin at just over 46%. Nose: spicy, fruity and green. At first, however, soft, Danish sweet licorice is up front, followed by fennel seeds and light caraway. Herbaceous with camomile and saffron. The fruit is green fig and fresh guava. However, the overall impression is slightly woody with rather fresh wood. There is also a slight sweetness of sugar water. Beautiful nose, but somewhat short and flat. 83 Palate: initially it seems thin, but then a nice spiciness quickly emerges. It is slightly salty with caraway and a little nutmeg, plus aniseed or licorice. There is also some fruit, a mixture of plum and cherry and fresh guava again. On the finish, it becomes increasingly grassy and herbal, almost with a hint of cucumber and sugar cane juice at the end. 79 If this rhum had more %%, it would be even nicer..."

"19.12.2020 Nice tasting shortly before Christmas in a private area of the bar. Unfortunately this very old bar closed down in 2023. Notes Clear in colour. Nose Fresh, intense, Agricole, grass, citrus, light floral. Palate Warm, fresh, Agricole, grass, citrus, floral. Finish Long, warm, citrus, sugarcane."

"Quite astringently alcoholic nose, mixed with some white chocolate. Not inviting but not unpleasant either. On the palate a completely different world opens up. Delicious exotic spices, slight caramel, tropical fruits (papaya in particular) all tantalizingly offset by the best expression so far of the signature Karukera dry bitter note. It's really good and makes you eager for the next sip. Excellent depth, medium to perhaps long finish. Probably could have supported even more ABV to punch the complexity outward even more, because there is a lot here. Easily the best Karukera I've tried so far. After my 3cl sample ran out I immediately wished I had more which is the sign of a really good one."

"18.01.2020 A nice little summer house meet up in ght cold part of the year. Good we had rums to keep us warm. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Light wood, fruity, orange, light vanilla, dried fruit, light mint, faint licorice. Palate Wood, warm, fruity, orange, spices, medium dry, fresh. Finish Wood, fruits, light salty, orange, light licorice, faint vegetal."

"#4080 Again a great bargain when looking at what you get. A very fresh white with very good ABV integration. Lightly fruity with cane and vegetal notes. Draws pretty nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some copper and grass."

"At first I thought: where did I last have that smell? It was, naturally, a sugarcane syrup. I therefore was expecting a quite sweet experience, but this is really the opposite. Other tastes fall a bit flat, though, but I get a strong woody note to the end."
