"Dégustation rhum et chocolat du Rum Club Switzerland et RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. Exactement la même note. Un nez de fruits tropicaux et de bois verni, du végétal et des bois jeunes. L’entrée de bouche est ample, facile et complexe avec du cèdre et des fruits jaunes. La finale est belle avec du végétal, du cèdre et des fruits mais un brin courte, on aimerait garder ces arômes plus longtemps. Un rhum qui semble facile d’accès et qui possède une belle complexité. De tes beaux arômes dans le verre vide."

"#4735 05.06.2024 A nice afternoon with Michael and a few good rums. Nose Fresh, intense, light wood, peach, fruity, herbs. Palate Fresh, intense, light roasted wood, fruity, herbs, light chocolate, light citrus, light honey. Finish Medium to long, warm, spicy, medium dry, fruity, faint chocolate. The empty glass had nice herbal notes to it. Very well balanced considering the age of the rum."

"Mal wieder ein sehr guter 2001er Fiji. Er ist mehr auf der würzig pflanzlichen Seite, dabei aber sehr ausgewogen. Der Alkohol ist sehr eingebunden und trägt die Aromen gut und deutlich. Er komnt zwar an meine Benchmark des Fiji Flag LMDW nicht heran… aber dennoch eine sehr gute Abfüllung"

Edit: In the comparison test with other Fiji, this one is in the top third in my opinion and is one of the best Fiji bottlings I've had in a glass. Evaluated quickly when bottling. I like it quite well at first glance. But will have to compete against other Fiji again."

"Nice and classic Fidji nose. Delivering all you would want around plastic, dirt, some vetegal and fruity notes. Similar picture on the palate, yet less fruity with more sweetness than expected. Texture is very nice and creamy. Good stuff, only complexity on the palate could be a bit higher."

"Second tasting, -2 points. A good rum that is surprisingly fruity and sweet! The medicinal sweetness always resonates and lacks some complexity. The finish gets a little dirty with gum and burnt sugar, ensnared in a coat of floral honey-melon syrup. Every sip is fun and the Fiji becomes more and more pleasing. Unfortunately, the alcohol is not very well integrated, which costs a lot of points."

"Again a great bottling from Fiji. Fiery, spicy, heavy, fresh - here happens a lot in the glass and although constantly flashing new flavor nuances but everything always remains in balance. Also reveals the heavy tea notes from the 2001 Vintage, which I personally like very much. Not quite at the height of the best representatives of the South Pacific distillery, both aromatically and in the alcohol integration are still air to the top - but still a great rum."

"Another retaste and it lost a few points, but still a great rum looking at the price tag. Price to quality you get a lot for your money. Fruit and esters combined with a nice spicy and warm palate. I get a light honey note on the nose and palate as well as a hint of mint on the finish. Really nice rum."

"Fijis sind in Kennerkreisen schon seit jahren beliebt und begehrt. Meine Erfahrung zeigt trotzdem, dass man auch zuweilen die Katze im Sack am Gaumen finden kann, völlig unabhängig von den Eckdaten. So ist jeder Fiji für mich spannend. Heute ein Quertasting. 1. sbs 2009 11yo: langweilig. bisschen was von dreckigen fiji noten, zu gleichen teilen aber auch vanille und süssholz. 77 Pkt. (2. Verkostung: -4 Pkt) 2. Famillie Ricci 22yo: Lecker, sehr ausgewogen, Alkohol gut integriert, am Gaumen etwas pfeffrig, adstringierend und süss zugleich. Der Abgang ist kurz. Lecker 83 Pkt. 3. Swell de Spirits 9yo: Sehr geschmeidig ist der Antritt, das ändert sich sofort! xD eine schnell weggerauchte Zigarre wandelt sich natürlich aber unverzüglich in Rauch und Adche. Während dieser Veränderung liegt der Rum sehr adstringierend und mundfüllend am Gaumen, geil! Hier passier sehr viel(auch dreckige Noten) in ganz kurzer Zeit und am Ende bleibt Asche. Geschmeidig und wild und rauchig zugleich. Das einzige Manko ist der schlecht eingebundene Alkohol, der einen unangenehmen langen Abgang beschert. Immerhin haben wir hier aber auch 66% abv. Meine Erwartungen sind diesbezüglich vllt. einfach zu hoch. Interessant und ich würde sehr gerne wissen, wie der der einigen Monaten oder auch Jahren in der Fladchr schmeckt. 85-88 Pkt. 4. The whisky jury fiji 2012: tja, den hätte ich vor dem swell probieren müssen. mein mund ist noch voll swell fiji xD 10 Minuten Pause. Viel gefälliger, erinnert an die eleganz eines Neisson im Antritt und dann schlägt er wieder zu , wie ein Fiji. Dreckige Aromen mit Vanille garniert. lecker, komplex aber auch ziemlich scharf. der abgang ist angenehm trocken, junges Gras und Vanille, etwas Gewürz. Lecker. Habe das Gefühl, dass mein Gaumen noch vom krassen Swell inspiriert ist =D 85 Pkt. Chapeau an den Swell, der lässt mich nicht in Ruhe. Macht mich sehr neugierig. Diese Beziehung könnte ziemlich "Toxic" werden, sofern sie mir eine Chance gibt."

"First impression at the HanseSpirit:Fulfills exactly the expectations I had and whose fulfillment I had hoped.Fruity, oily, pleasant workshop aromas...Nachtasting follows.So, and now again in peace at home:Nose: totally pleasant, spicy-fruity, with this special oily texture, which together with pencil shavings and some varnish or glue reminiscent of the fumes from a precision engineering workshop. Interesting also an intense yogurt note that underscores the subtle fruity sweetness. In fruit here gooseberry with lime together with canola honey. The over 60% is very well integrated here. 86Palate: initially that oily, artificial attack again, slightly salty-bitter, with pencil mien. Slightly resinous and something like polish to it. The fruit is again reminiscent of gooseberry, this time with lime zest. Also, the yogurt note comes through clearly again. I really like it. 84Must correct the rating from yesterday significantly upwards. Now 85 instead of 80. Very nice Fiji profile!"

"Update nach ca. 3 Jahren: Habe den Rum nach dem ersten Review kaum mehr im Glas gehabt. Die ursprüngliche. Bewertung mit 88 Pkt. ist sicher eine meiner krassesten Fehleinschätzungen. Das aromatische Spektrum habe ich richtig beschrieben, aber die Bewertung kanm ich nicht mehr nachvollziehen. Das ist ein ziemlich seichter ColumnStill Rum. Die typischen Fiji-Aromen sind weit im Hintergrund. Nachvorne ist er super soft und gefällig. Heute hat Planteray einige solcher Fijis abgefüllt, zum Zeitpunkt der Abfüllung des Duchess war das Profil noch unbekannt. -8 Punkte Anders als die früheren 2004er Releases wartet dieser Fiji mit 12 Jahren tropischer Reifung auf - wie der Holmes Cays. Wirkt deutlich jünger als der 17yo TRC (positiv gemeint). Im ersten Moment erkennt man nicht, dass es sich um einen Fiji handelt. Die Nase ist sehr zurückhaltend und erinnert eher an jüngere Bajan Rums. Im Mund kommen die Fiji-Aromen langsam dazu, vor allem die pfanzlichen Noten, weniger die Gummi-Seite, dadurch wird er sehr komplex und balanciert. Bisschen wie ein dreckiger Foursquare. Der Alkohol ist super eingebunden. Top!"

Irgendwie schade, aber so ist das eben manchmal - sogar mit einem von Nobilis abgefüllten Rum. Update 2024-02-01 - Blind Tasting, 6. Rum Nase: brrrr, was ist das denn? Ein simpel gestrickter Foursquare? Gaumen: einfach unangenehm, sprittig, trotzdem flach; nee, FS kann das nicht sein, ich mag die zwar nicht, aber weil sie langweilig sind, aber nicht so stechend wie dieser Rum. Keine Ahnung, was das ist. Auflösung: Puh, der Fiji von Nobilis, den ich sogar schon mal im Glas hatte. Aber die damals vergebenen 76 Punkte kann der Rum heute nicht halten: von mir gibt es nur 60 Punkte. Sorry, Nobilis, Fehlgriff. 🤷🏽♂️"

"This is a sample I just got and I have to admit it was a very nice meeting I had with it. The nose is fresh and fruity with light smoky wood and grass. As it rests the nose gets more clear and fruity. The palate is creamy with smoky wood, fruit and a hint of coffee. The finish is medium long with smoky wood, fruits and light coffee."

"A relatively sweet Fijian rum. The nose evokes a few medicinal flavors that are far from dominant. Apart from a perceptible alcoholic touch, exotic fruits, wood, chocolate, spices and sweet notes (caramel, sugar) form a fairly classic olfactory profile. The attack on the palate is more incisive. There's a certain heaviness on the palate and a syrupy texture. The profile remains dominated by woody flavors, chocolate, exotic fruits, spices, nuts and caramel. The alcohol is well integrated, though not completely unnoticed. The length on the palate is correct. The calm of the nose is restored, with similar flavors. Warmth and toastiness on the finish are not unpleasant. All in all, a very respectable Single Cask, but one that lacks the expression and depth to be at the top of its class, both for its terroir and for its bottler."

A fruity rum with nice balance in wood and spices. The palate is warm, sweet and oily. There is a nice floral touch to the profile. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is nice with some smoke and coconut."

On the palate, however, it is too thin... and the aromas are only faintly perceptible. First the sweetness dominates, then the cask. The finish is relatively short."

"It has all the characteristics of the extremely intense 2001 vintage, but thanks to the comparatively low strength, the rum is not overpowering, but rather invites you to discover the aromas. Due to the significantly lower strength, there is of course a lack of intensity here and there, but the rum does not appear really thin. Not enough for the absolute top class from 2001, but in my eyes the rum is nowhere near as clearly inferior as the current overall rating suggests - but of course the same applies here: De gustibus non est disputandum."
