How does this rum taste?
- Strong ester and tropical presence
- High-proof cocktail suitability
- Distinct character and complexity
The Overproof Jamaica Rum Legendary Marques DOK from the Hampden distillery is a bold exploration of high-ester profiles, distilled using pot stills from molasses. Its youthful and untamed spirit is evident through dominant aromas of tropical fruits and esters, complemented by solvent and woody notes. Despite just a year of aging, the rum reveals surprising woodiness alongside buttery nuances on the palate, underscored by a noticeable high alcohol presence. Though some find the woody elements overpowering the ester funk, the unique DOK mark and its potential in tropical cocktails like a Mai Tai are notable highlights, often suggested for further aging to refine its complex profile.

"Young and wild . I really like the Mark DOK !!! Alcohol very present but not too disturbing. Concentrated ester power. For the very young age there is also a lot of wood. A bomb in May Tai ... very tasty."

"I find the nose very pleasant and funky. The esters, the glue and the solvents are all quite funky, but in a positive way. On the palate, I'm surprised by the dominant woodiness. The fruit and funk take a back seat. That deducts points. Unfortunately, this dominance continues on the palate. Unfortunately, the nose promised more than was ultimately revealed"

"Hier sind natürlich reichlich Ester im Spiel. Zwischen viel Klebstoff und Lösemittel sind süße Früchte, besonders Beeren zu riechen. Ebenfalls Zimt. Am Gaumen trocken und ruppig, etwas Holz tatsächlich auch."

"Very strong aroma, wild fun strong esters, a lot of wood in taste and smell for a young rum. It should stay in the cask for at least another 3-4 years and it would be a hit. If it was still available to me I would probably save one bottle for later."
