"This is a very well balanced rum from Zacapa and I like is a lot especially considering the price tag. The nose is heavy with spice and sweetness and a touch of orange zest and chocolate. The palate is well rounded with caramel, honey and chocolate topped of with burnt oak and overripe fruits. It has a long, sweet and fruity finish with burnt oak. I'd say this one is better than the bottling from the late 90s and early 00s that won medals. Price to quality is very good. "

"This is definitely a good rum for beginners. A bit too sweet for me, but still nicely balanced and an easy sipper. The nose is sweet with vanilla and chocolate. The palate is sweet and fruity with spices and caramel. Kind of a smooth rum. The finish is medium and sweet with vanilla. "

"Tried to use this rum in a rum/raisin cake and the result was amazing. This is a rum in the cheaper end of the spectrum and it's definitely a good beginner rum. Not as sweet as the rums from Riise, but getting close to it. The nose is light and sweet with chocolate, vanilla and oak with a touch of butterscotch. The palate is sweet with chokolate and nougat, but it also has a slight bitterness with nuts and fruits. The endof the palate has smoke to it. The finish is sweet with smoky leather and vanilla. Price to quality is very good."

"The nose on this rum is really nice and it may remind you of some of the Last Ward rums, not as complex but very well balanced. The palate has been perfectly rounded with the perfect proof. So no alcohol dominance but a perfect balance. The orange really shines through and the price to quality is very good. "

"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first one of the six. Despite this one being a young rum from the destillery it still manages to be very complex with a very nice nose and palate. The vanilla is perfectly matched with the rest and the finish is long and has a bit of smoke to it. All in all a very good price tag for this bottle. This bottle won gold at the International Rum Expert Panel 2010."

"This nice sipper has to rest for a while before nosing or you'll get a punch of alcoholic blast. The nose is wonderfully smooth even velvety I'd say. Smoky wood and fruity with toffee and spices. The palate is complex and very well balanced with smoky oak and spices and a hint of the cognac cask it was finished in. The finish is long and sweet with spices and coffee and once again a hint of the cognac cask."

"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the second one of the six. This is the second time I have this rum in a tasting and this time it got a few more points. This rum is made from sugarcane and honey molasses, which is pretty rare. In this rum you can really smell and taste the honey. This is a must try if you like Zacapa rum because they're pretty similar. Price to quality is very good. This rum won gold at the 2010 International Rum Expert Panel. "

The latest one just consists of different rum from Guyana. The one I review here is the latest one. I think itâs quite complex with a good balance between sweetness and dryness."

"The good thing about this rum is that it has not been excessively sugared, like many other rums from this category. However, it is not particularly praiseworthy at first sight because of the alcoholic note, but if you give it a little time, you get a wonderfully woody sherry nose. In addition, caramel and some fruit. In the mouth then even the dark flavors dominate, which makes this rum something special."

"Not as sweet as many of the other Plantation rums but still sweet enough that you get it on the nose. It's a light easy to drink rum that you can sip or use in a cocktail. It does lack complexity but you can't expect that from 5 years of aging. Price to quality is good."

"Had a retest led by the co-founder Mr. Ian Burrell during the Pre-party to Sweden Rumfest at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm which confirmed my earlier review. The added picture is from the first test. ââââââââââââââ-Bought 2*3 cl of this rum, a blend from Mauritius (Grayâs) and Barbados (Foursquare). Itâs good, but I expected more cause itâs Richard Seale and Ian Burrell thatâs behind it. Overall I think itâs a quite great rum, but a little too weak. Itâs unsweetened, but there are some sweetness so I think it maybe could be something for people who likes sweet rum that want to develop their rum drinking into less sweetened rum."

I think the idea with this version was to try and challenge Zacapa and El Dorado, but they still have some way to go. For the price though, this is a good rum. "

"Hmm, heretical question: could it possibly be that this rhum is generally overrated in the euphoric exuberance in the face of a four-piece set perfectly prepared for collectors? đ€ Too much advance praise? I certainly had to drink it in first. đł After the typical notes of whitewashed wall dominate the nose, the rhum on the palate lacks almost everything that fascinated me about the first release in the series. Only towards the end, on the finish, is there a certain spicy power that compensates somewhat for the seemingly arbitrary impression on the palate. Nevertheless, no comparison with the divine No. 1, rather with the already weakening No. 7 (even if a direct crosstasting is still pending). I wouldn't have thought so. Bad form on the day? Update 2023-04-14: No, it's not due to poor form on the day. đ€·ââïž Tasted today directly against the already legendary Les EphemĂ©res No. 1. The No. 6 can make up a little ground (80 instead of 78 points), but can't hold a candle to the No. 1, remains somehow one-dimensional. Update 2024-02-11: Tasted again in parallel with the Saint James/Excellence Rhum (RX18129) from the same distillation year. Result as expected: Les Ephemeres No. 6 is in no way a match for the Excellence Rhum. Strangely enough, it has an unpleasant smell of inferior glue on the nose today, at least initially, and an inappropriate sharpness on the palate; the agricole seems unround overall - all in direct comparison to RX18129, mind you. Tasted individually, it would certainly score better. It remains at 80 points."

"A wonderful balanced nose a bit woody with vanilla. Leave it for 15 minutes and the flavours come running at you even without putting your nose to the glass. The palate shows a well rounded full body rum with an extremely long finish. Leaving the glass after you finish will reveal a wonderful woody/spice nose."

"26-27.01.2024 Hanse Spirits. Retasting this and I still thing this is a very good rum at the price tag. ------------------- This one was a huge surprise so I'll have to get a few for my tastings. Price to quality is very good and a must try for most. Try to add a piece of lime zest and the rum just comes to life. We tried a new unfinished version that was over 70% and it was even better. That one I'd be interested in as well đ"

"It is rare, far too rare, to discover a diamond among pebbles. And if it happens by chance, it's all the more incredible. But it actually happened with this rum! I'm still blown away. The rum already promises a lot on the nose and reminds me of an old Demerara. So tempting that I can't wait to taste it. Very fruity on the palate, overripe blackcurrants? The alcohol is more perfectly integrated than I have ever experienced with any other rum. The maximum has really been extracted from the 47% vol. The only small drawback: a slight lack of depth and intensity due to the low ABV. But such a small "impurity" is easy to get over with such a fine diamond, isn't it? Top rum under the radar. Update 2023-10-06: The rum remains a top product for me, but has found its champion in the Savoir Faire 2009 with 60% (RX2744). Update 2023-10-18: Tasting again against the RX2744, this time direct. And I have to say that a direct comparison is really enlightening - and doesn't end well for the Emotion 1969 ... It seems like the league leader of the 2nd division playing at the top level in its class against a Champions League team ... đ Try it out and you'll find it confirmed. RumX Advent calendar 09.12.2023 (blind tasting) I wrote in the appropriate place before solving the puzzle: Yes, on the nose I'm also more with FS, although what's amazing here is that you really perceive zero alcohol! A completely different rum on the palate: Not warm-caramel like on the nose, but clearly red-fruity and a little spicy. And what do I always associate with red fruit? That's right, Mauritius! :blush: Since this rum is not an alcohol monster, but rather under 50% vol. I'm guessing RX2495. Of course, it could also be another New Grove from Grays with around 45% vol. as there are still a few around ... Or maybe even a TDL. In any case, I like the rum very much. :yum::yum::yum:"

It's a perfect representation of the rhums trad found there, with the fruity side of the grand aroma, present but not overpowering. It drinks well, is pleasant, vegetal, floral, woody and fruity. A great success. In the end, it's what I expected from savanna's Le Must, which doesn't emphasize the fruitiness of the grand arĂŽme enough. This is the case here."

"Saint James VSOP is an AOC rum from pure cane juice made in a traditional Creole column. thatâs aged between 4 and 6 years. The nose is woody, spicy, sweet and fruity with aromas of oak, vanilla and dandelion. At the palate itâs woody and spicy with flavors of pepper, leather and honey. The finish is medium long, fruity and woody with flavors of oak and dried fruit."

Some nutmeg and green fruits again. After half an hour the rum opens up and you are rewarded with a great balanced profile. Spicy, some floral and a pleasant sweetness. Alcohol very well integrated."

"Retasting and leaving the original note đ This is a rum that will surprise most people bacause it's in the cheaper end but delivers none the less. A wonderful fruity nose with molasses, honey and caramel topped off with oak. The palate is nkvmcely balance d though not complex it still manages to be well rounded with fruit, caramel followed by coffee, chocolate and a squeeze of marzipan. The finish is medium long and mild with oak and fruits."

"A rum decried by the RumX community and praised by Serge Valentin. So I had to buy it and taste it. I was rather disappointed when I opened the bottle, but I'm familiar with the phenomenon... A nose of old leather, flambéed banana, brown sugar and tea, with good concentration. A slightly peaty palate with fat and brown sugar. The finish is abrupt, but honey and cask reappear after a while. The empty glass is splendid with previously hidden aromas. Apart from the fact that this rum is too lively when opened, I find nothing but good in it. It's perfectly balanced and deep. It could have a slightly broader aromatic palette, but then it would be one of the great Demerara rums. Buy it before it disappears from the shelves."

"Bought this Rhum from Catawiki to a very good price together with some other bottles. Karukera is produced by the Esperance distillery in Guadeloupe that also produces Longuetau. Karukera is the name the indigenous people called their island which means 'The island of beautiful waters'. Itâs distilled in the distilleryâs column still, but the details how it has been aged differs, some says for seven years in French bourbon and cognac barrels others says five years in new charred barrels. Maybe there are two different ones. Overall a super smooth and round Rhum that probably is a very good introduction to Rhum from Guadeloupe."

"The smell is still the best thing about this rum, then in the mouth is the total crash. With almost 100g / L actually already a liqueur, yet the sugar does not manage to round off the sharpness in the mouth and aftertaste. The extreme sweetness and spiciness is irritating and one wonders why so much sugar was added at all if a certain spiciness was intended. This rum is a strange accident."

Lightly fruity with spices and roasted wood in near perfect harmony. "Retasting and it did lose some points đ ------- This one concludes this week's tastings. Angostura has done it again. Another great rum and this one is a tad better than their 12 year old. This one was blended by John George's and he did a really good job. After blending it matured for 15 years in oak and you can taste that oak. A fruity well balanced rum with a long and full bodied finish."

"Today there are two Foursquare: 1. covenant: This one tastes like it looks. Lots of dark fruit, somewhat leathery and dry on the palate. The cask influence is very strong, almost too strong. You have to know what you're getting into, but if you like it, you won't be disappointed. The alcohol is well integrated. Delicious Foursquare that I could imagine really enjoying from time to time! 2nd Absolutio: Awesome piece! There are no surprises on the nose or palate in terms of aromas. "The molasses is bought from Dom.Rep. and Guyana. After distillation itâs aged in former bourbon barrels of American oak, which are charred, for between 10 and 25 years. To enhance the oak taste is a handful of oak chips added to each barrel. In my opinion is it a great rum that overall is very dry and oaky."

Those notes are overwhelmig all the other notes like wood, oak, herbal, floral, sugarcane, a bit fruity (citrus?!). All in all itâs a special one, for sure, but a good one. Buttery, nicely acidic, lemony, overripe banana, grilled bacon and yellow fruit make up a nose that remains balanced despite its complexity. "Enjoying this one right now while preparing for the big Whisky and Rum Event tomorrow. One of my favourite Damoiseau's because of the overall profile and very well integrated ABV. ------- I got this bottle a little over a month ago and I've sipped it a few times. It is now one of my favourite Agricoles. The nose has lots of wonderful spices mixed with fruit, wood and some leather. The Agricole is definitely there and some grassy notes The palate is elegant and complex with spices, chocolate and a sprinkle of banana. Dry warm Agricole in my mind, yummy. The finish is long and warm with orange, wood and vegetal notes. You should rest this nice rum for at least 15vminutes before giving it a go."
