"This is a very well balanced rum from Zacapa and I like is a lot especially considering the price tag. The nose is heavy with spice and sweetness and a touch of orange zest and chocolate. The palate is well rounded with caramel, honey and chocolate topped of with burnt oak and overripe fruits. It has a long, sweet and fruity finish with burnt oak. I'd say this one is better than the bottling from the late 90s and early 00s that won medals. Price to quality is very good. "

"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first one of the six. Despite this one being a young rum from the destillery it still manages to be very complex with a very nice nose and palate. The vanilla is perfectly matched with the rest and the finish is long and has a bit of smoke to it. All in all a very good price tag for this bottle. This bottle won gold at the International Rum Expert Panel 2010."

"This nice sipper has to rest for a while before nosing or you'll get a punch of alcoholic blast. The nose is wonderfully smooth even velvety I'd say. Smoky wood and fruity with toffee and spices. The palate is complex and very well balanced with smoky oak and spices and a hint of the cognac cask it was finished in. The finish is long and sweet with spices and coffee and once again a hint of the cognac cask."

Due to the only 40% somewhat watered down and thin and not too complex but a nice Feierabend Sipper at a good price. Definitely a great entry rum and superior to the many dead sugared competitors.Addendum: last drop is out of the bottle. Complex? Rather less. Good sipper? Definitely. A good unsweetened representative of the Spanish style. A little more power would have done it good. A >50% version would be nice. Still, great price/performance. Overall rating 2"

"The good thing about this rum is that it has not been excessively sugared, like many other rums from this category. However, it is not particularly praiseworthy at first sight because of the alcoholic note, but if you give it a little time, you get a wonderfully woody sherry nose. In addition, caramel and some fruit. In the mouth then even the dark flavors dominate, which makes this rum something special."

"Retasting this one and would have loved to try it at a higher ABV. Well price to quality is an absolute hammer. You get a lot for your money here. I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. The nose is complex and well rounded with fruit, and spices trailed by chocolate, coffee and caramel. Try and leave the empty glass for a few hours and then whif it again :-) The palate is sweet and fruity with wood, spices and caramel. The finish is medium long and sweet with wood, spices and a light minty note."

"The nose is vanilla forward. Quite a lot of esters and a subtle citrus and white chocolate note. The palate has the vanilla from the nose but it's more mineral and less fruity. Some exotic woods. The finish is quite short. Vanilla and toasted coconut mainly. Overall its a decent white rum. I'm not too much of a fan of this mixed but it's very reasonably priced and not bad neat."

Total aging is six to eleven years.I think it’s a little bit better than their classic Reserve. In the front of the mouth it doesn’t taste very much, but when you swallow it all flavors arrive and stays there trough the rather long finish."

"This rum people can only agree to disagree on. Sipping it i feel like being on an island in Greece. This is a rum on the cheaper end of the spectrum, so considering the price you get a good rum. Probably a good rum for beginners. The nose is sweet and has fruit and herbs to it with a touch of wood. The palate lacks complexity but is sweet with fruits and vanilla and a tad of burnt barrel. The finish is medium and once again the vanilla is dominant with a nice plum on the side. Price to quality is very good. "

"Got this 5cl sample in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. The Abuelo XII Two Oaks is a 12yo rum stored in two different types of oak barrels. First on traditional Tennessee whiskey / bourbon casks during 11 years, and then a final storage on deep-fried casks of new American white oak. It’s produced from both molasses and sugar cane juice by Varela Hermanos. The sugar content is 24 gpl, so it’s sweet but not extremely sweet."

"I think this rum is one of the most misunderstood ones in the market. I've been travelling in Japan and tried a lot of their spirits and it with that in mind I scored this rum. The nose starts off with whisky and sake, yes, sake. Then the vegetal and grassy notes appear with some oak and caramel. The palate is light yet complex with sake and Agricole notes. Later you have sake and the vegetal notes mixed with smoke and oak. The finish is medium long with sake and vegetal notes to it. The price is high for such a young rum, but nothing from Japan is cheap. "

In the mouth, the smoke and tobacco then comes through very strongly, which is why drinking becomes a spicy experience. Must like, I do not find it all too good. Price much too expensive! Positive to mention are in any case the chocolate and roasted flavors, which are very pleasant in combination with caramel."

"A rum tasted at the Lucerne Gin and Rum Festival 2024. A nose of bitter root, like gentian, but also sugar, yellow fruit and a herbaceous side. The palate is very bitter and alcoholic, a gentian spirit? But also with a sweet/honey side. The finish is short, leaving only bitterness in the mouth. To the untrained eye, you'd think it was a slightly sweet root liqueur rather than a rum. That said, it's pleasant on the palate and well made. I like it less than the 4-year-old."

The bottle comes in a nice wooden box with a sliding front which is pretty fancy for a rum in this price range. "Bought me some bottles cause I couldn’t find Goslings to a competitive price cause I needed some dark rum to make Dark ‘N’ Stormys during the quite short Swedish summer. Tasted it first neat against Goslings Black Seal. Myers’s was then a clear winner because of nose and finish. When making the Dark ‘N’ Stormy contest I think it’s up to one and each of us to decide. When using Myers’s you get much more rum feeling mostly because of the finish. I prefer Myers’s but Goslings is also great so I think it’s all about personal opinion and taste."

My guide during my visit at the distillery told me that they’re most pleased with the Port Cask Finish, of the three, in batch 002. I’ll drink to that! "You get a lot for your money here and I do recommend people to give it a try. I do know its not the top range but still a very good blend. Leave to rest for a while to get the full experience. The nose is fresh and intense with wood, vanilla and plum as well as light cocoa and roasted notes. The palate is well balanced with fruit, wood, vanilla, cocoa, tobacco and light nuts. The finish is medium to long with dried fruit, wood and chocolate. Leave the glass for a few hours and nose it again for even stronger flavours."

"Got a sample of this rum from RR Tasting Club some time ago. Compagnie des Indes Caraibes is a blend of rums from Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad. The color is quite pale and I haven’t found anything about aging, but I suppose it’s a quite young rum. I don’t recognize rum from Guyana or Barbados in the blend, so I suppose it’s mostly rum from Trinidad in the blend. Overall it’s too bland for my taste and nothing to write home about."

"The base in this rum is a blend of 5yo rum from Guyana (DDL) and Barbados (a little unclear if it comes from WIRD or Foursquare, seen both data) aged in the Caribbean. I’ve taste this and I can clearly recognize Demerara at this stage. This base are after arriving to Jerez, Spain, aged for 3 more Solera years in barrels earlier contained Dos Cortados Sherry which is very dry. I think it’s quite good even if it can’t compete with my favorite Sherry finished rum, but it’s in my opinion much better than the 5+5."

"The tasted one here is from batch 002. Have also a bottle from batch 001, unopened. I tasted it the first time during my vacation in Antigua down at a restaurant in Falmouth Harbour. Thought that the nose was great, but the nose of the port version is even better. But nevertheless this is a great rum, well worth trying, that’s very complex and has a great finish."

"A light nose with a Demerara base, a hint of lemon and a hint of pastry. A light, acqueous, pastry-like palate. Clean and flawless, but a little too sweet. A short finish with vanilla cream. In short, a rum without qualities but pleasant to drink, very conciliatory and good value for money."

"So Tag 2 vom RumX Adventskalender Was für eine krasse Nummer. Je länger dieser im Glas war, desto öfters musste ich umdenken. Kurz vor Schluss zumindest auf der richtigen Spur gewesen. "The molasses is bought from Dom.Rep. and Guyana. After distillation it’s aged in former bourbon barrels of American oak, which are charred, for between 10 and 25 years. To enhance the oak taste is a handful of oak chips added to each barrel. In my opinion is it a great rum that overall is very dry and oaky."

"Overall a solid low ABV Agricole Blanc that’s really smooth. The nose is fresh, fruity, round and spicy. At the palate it’s smooth, fruity, vegetal and sweet with flavors of peppers, melon, grass and sugarcane. The finish is medium long."

"Got this sample in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. It’s produced from molasses in a multi column still whereafter it’s aged in Jack Daniel’s barrels using the Solera method. The oldest drops is said to be 30yo. Overall it’s very smooth but a little too sweet for me (hydrometer tests I’ve read indicates 27gpl of sugar), I should probably liked it even more with a little higher ABV which should balance the sweetness."

"At the second tasting I found myself surprised because I sensed new aromas on the palate. I was probably not at my best last time.A very pleasant rum with light barrel notes. Medium finish and albeit too low alcohol content. The low price plays in its favor. Cuban rums, and in Spanish in general, lack the courage to try stronger gradations."

"Holziger und etwas fruchtiger in der Nase als der Indigo. Die Schokoladenaromen sind röstiger und dunkler. Vanille, Zitrus, viel Fass. Auch am Gaumen wieder das Spiel aus Milchschokolade und Frucht. Nussiger und würziger als der Indigo, nicht so reif wie der Cinabrio. Gut süffig, aber nicht so rund wie der Rest der Range."

"Though the ABV is relatively low they have still managed to put a lot of flavour into this release. I'd say the nose is light and elegant at the same time. Good balance between the elements in the profile. Can't stop wondering what it would have turned out at a higher ABV."
