Top review from Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪:
"Magnificent! On the nose tar, barrel and lightly cherry and vanilla. In the mouth an explosion of perfectly balanced sensations. Still tar, barrel and followed by toastiness and chocolate with a mix of spices.Intense finish that lingers until the next day.In my small way, one of the best rums I have tasted. I assigned 94 because there are too many great rums that I have never tasted and may never taste."

Top review from Tim :
"The good thing about this rum is that it has not been excessively sugared, like many other rums from this category. However, it is not particularly praiseworthy at first sight because of the alcoholic note, but if you give it a little time, you get a wonderfully woody sherry nose. In addition, caramel and some fruit. In the mouth then even the dark flavors dominate, which makes this rum something special."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Top Caroni and an excellent representative of the great '96 vintage. Balanced, complex, Caroni-typical notes, dark fruit and beautiful sweetness. An ideal entry-level rum into the high-quality world of tropically aged Caronis with a price-performance ratio that is no longer quite so easy to finance, but still relatively good for Caroni. Excellent."

Top review from Jakob:
"Simply excellent. Brings the Demerara-typical, unique in this form oak vanilla note in perfection in glass. In addition, chocolate melt, hints of latte, fine spices, caramel, a touch of dried fruit and allspice ... I am impressed time and again by the aromatic force that this bottling conjures up in the glass. That a completely tropically stored Guyana in the Skeldon Marque with such a high-class profile remains available for so long at the issue price is in view of the current demand m.E. not rationally explainable - but shall be fine with me. An absolute price-performance tip, even at prices well beyond the 200€."

"An extremely tasty number that is dominated above all by the floral tones of rose and Thai flying mango, which then alternate with nutty and chocolaty aromas. Mega exciting, extremely palatable and a complexity like this is very rare with Foursquare. Absolutely outstanding for me! It has become one of my favorite sipping rums. I think this could really be my absolute favorite Foursquare!"

"The clearly more relaxed - in the sense of uncomplicated drinkable - STCE from the Velier series. For me, both are almost on par, only the slightly greater aromatic force brings the 2010 razor-thin in front. However, both offer high quality, without any doubt."

"Nice rum, but a little under compared to batch1. The presence of a slight solvent note I liked less and it is less intense. However, we are talking about finesse and personal taste. We are dealing with a rum that I would drink all the time! I do not understand all these new versions of Hampden Velier that I find little different from each other and especially pòco justified in terms of value for money. Velier lately is focusing too much on collectors with the result of making the bottles unobtainable already upon release and overpriced."

Triptych and Pleni came out on top for me closely followed by Destino. I was somewhat surprised, that Sassafras and 2006 came out rather at the bottom, while I enjoyed both very much on their own. Raconteur also quite low in the ranking with Principia clearly at the bottom."

"This was the odd one out and also a huge surprise. Considering the price tag you get a lot for your money. I found out that it needed to rest for at least 15 minutes and at 30 minutes the flavours just come at you. Intense and fruity with nice spices and cane. I really like the floral note from nose to finish and even the empty glass was wonderful after a while. Loking forward to our S.B.S and Silver Seal tasting next week."

"Nice rum, but too similar to hampden the younger and the 50 euro difference is a tease to the consumer. Unfortunately lately Velier is releasing overpriced bottlings where you pay for the brand and less for the quality of the product. Personally I would never buy it taking into account that the overproof can be found at 80 euros and this at 110 and the younger at 59."

"Blind tasting 01.02.2024, 2nd rum of the evening Nose: But now Jamaica! Some kind of low ester, I would say. Palate: A little too sour for me, seems one-dimensional, but the alcohol is well integrated. But stick with Jamaica. An HGML? The Younger perhaps? Resolution: Wow, the latest GH, really? I would have expected more."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Develops amazing aromatic complexity with a little patience and time spent in the bottle. Rather dry Caroni with only discreet, but very charming residual sweetness and a lot of barrel influence, which is undoubtedly intense, but does not tip into the too bitter. One of the bottlings where the long availability is qualitatively inexplicable. Exceptionally good."

"#5 RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: fruits (apricot, cocconut, banana), fruity, woody M: spicy, woody, astrigend, roasted, minty F: oak, vanilla, caramel Prediction: guyana maybe (had some appleton estate in mind, but with that tastes… i‘m unsure) , approx. 55-60%…. totally wrong 🙈 Update: Still the beste AE Hearts for me An amazing Appelton Estate! It has a nice burnt umber color and oily tears. The first impression is a smell of glue and different fruits, the typical Jamaican/appleton smell. For sure this one needs time to fully open. In mouth it has a bitter, complex, ginger, tropical fruits… and low ester. The finish is a warm, dry, salty, woody, vanilla with a bit of orange. Resume: Best of Appelton so far!"

Very fruity with an intense nose and starting palate. The chemical factory like my friend calls it is there and the finish is very long and warm. Draws nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is very nice even after hours."

Retasting and I still like it, price to quality is very good in my mind. ----------------- #4565 20.01.2024 Relaxing a bit today ☺️ This is a nice release with nice fruits and light spices. The glue and solvent notes are light and actually becomes the profile. The palate is oily, warm and naturally sweet with some added anise. The finish is medium long and also lightly sweet. The empty glass has medicinal and faint smoky notes."

"Rum and chocolate tasting by Rum Club Switzerland. A nose of tropical fruit (banana), citrus, varnished wood and sweetness (pastries). A floral note completes the nose. The palate has a fairly lively attack, with fruit and floral notes emerging later. The finish is long, with fruit and wood on the finish. Empty glass, fruit and wood varnish in harmony. A fine, lively, well-balanced rum. It lacks a little depth, but it's very well made and a pleasure to drink."

Top review from cigares :
"A rum decried by the RumX community and praised by Serge Valentin. So I had to buy it and taste it. I was rather disappointed when I opened the bottle, but I'm familiar with the phenomenon... A nose of old leather, flambéed banana, brown sugar and tea, with good concentration. A slightly peaty palate with fat and brown sugar. The finish is abrupt, but honey and cask reappear after a while. The empty glass is splendid with previously hidden aromas. Apart from the fact that this rum is too lively when opened, I find nothing but good in it. It's perfectly balanced and deep. It could have a slightly broader aromatic palette, but then it would be one of the great Demerara rums. Buy it before it disappears from the shelves."

Top review from Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪:
"A rum balanced in aromas, for my taste far too much. A fine rum, but the column distillation limits its potential. The nose reveals a light roastiness accompanied by dark chocolate, wood and spice. On the palate there is wood, spice, faint roasting/roasting and balsamic notes with a not too long lychee/grape finish. One senses the use of ex-cognac barrels that give it a refined profile close to agricole. A rum that needs attention, but personally not my style."

Top review from Frank:
"VSGBNose: not a classic Clarin, the oloroso cask has mellowed it considerably. Fruity it is, apple and honeydew melon with a little vinegar. In addition something vegatibles, maybe artichoke, green with something, like chamomile. Palate: hui, seems very sweet, sherry sweet, so quite full-bodied. Cherry, plum and dried, sulfured apricot. On the palate, the sherry fizz - as so often, or almost always - clearly drowns out the actual rum. If you like that, it is quite tasty, but for me always too monotonous and interchangeable. So also here."

"Very nice on the nose. This feels very mature (in a positive way) with lots of wood, chocolate and hints of coconuts. Those notes are accompanied by lots of ripe and dried fruits and some herbs (a hint of menthol?). The fruit notes are rather intense making this the best MG nose I experienced so far. Lots of wood on the palate without being to dry or bitter. Dark choclate and some dried fruits show up to the party. Nice. This one needs quite some time to breath to fully open up but delivers a very nice MG expression."

"I love this oak forest. There are other unicorns besides the 1986 WIRD. You walk in a very old oak forest, fresh resin on the nose (the couch potato could also say glue), some orange keeps in the background, humus-rich forest floor on which grows damp moss. The taste continues with a pleasant bitterness for wood lovers, dried fruits keep in the background. Too much fruit here would also destroy the flair of the forest. With time in the glass, leather and vanilla come through more strongly. The finish is extremely long lasting, complemented by tobacco. Disappointed here who expects a maximum of complexity which is simply not very pronounced."

"The flavorful outlier among the Velier diamonds - but by no means in a negative sense. Those who like licorice and leather notes in Demerara will find what they are looking for here. I personally like the profile very much and catapults the bottling consequently also in the top range. No classic Diamond essence, rather 70s Demerara notes with tart, heavy sweetness. An absolutely outstanding release."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Round 98 Caroni with pleasant sweetness and thanks to the somewhat lower alcohol strength almost an easy sipping rum - as far as one can speak of it with Caroni. "More wood and less almond on the nose than the 45% version. More serious, very dignified, very nice. Mega cool in the mouth. Full, dense, lots of honey. The finish could be a little longer. The closest taste to the Bielle standard (Brut de fut 20XX), without reaching the class of the Liberation series. The 2020 does not disappoint. It's in line with the 2012, but my favorite remains the 2015 with its sunny disposition."

Top review from Jakob:
"Top rum, but it does not come close to the level of Velier's 1996 SVW. The aroma profile is almost identical, but is somewhat stronger in the spicy notes and at the same time has less expression in the vanilla notes that were so famous in the 1996 SVW. For me, therefore, just below the magic 9.0-point mark, but of course still an exquisite release."

"Interesting color! Clearly darker also than older (continental matured) bottlings. The nose is also surprising: I find much more sweetness associated with tropical fruits (banana!) Than sonnst at Hampden. In addition, a floral note comes to it, no disturbing alcohol, decidedly balanced. All together results in an intense but not brute, versatile Hampdennase - I really like! Palate: wow, lots of sweetness again, almost immediate salivation, and very pleasant barrel notes. Hard to believe this rum wasn't aged in a sweet wine barrel! Almost perfect impression and superbly integrated alcohol. The aftertaste leaves a little compared to the very high level of nose and palate is still long and intense and again the attribute "balanced" fits 100%. Yes, this is well over 90 points for me! The price charged is unfortunately unacceptably high."

"Velier and Demerara is rarely a combination that does not know how to convince - also in this case results in an excellent rum that expresses the magnificent potency of tropically aged Demeraras. Very good rum!"

"A rum tasted at the German Rum Festival in 2024. A rum I'd heard a lot about but never tasted. The nose is clearly Spanish, caramel and wood. With a dark, complex, oily side that needs to be sought out. The palate is rather weak, acqueous, oily, with wood and caramel and like a background of bitter medicinal herbs and soap. Aromas I should attribute to Caroni? The finish is short, except for those odd aromas that linger a little. Not at all the expression I was expecting. The empty glass reveals Caroni aromas, but more on the oily side than tar and rubber."

Top review from Jakob:
"Balanced, but ultimately a bit too tamed. Although here, as with other Moon Demeraras, the dilution does not dilute at all, but compared to other representatives from the 1990 batch is lost a little flavor intensity. Regardless, a very tasty rum remains without blemish, which raises all the more the question of what would have been possible without dilution."

"I'm a bit ambivalent here... the nose is great with sweet tropical fruits, vanilla and almonds. On the palate, initially a heavy sweetness with fruit... the longer it lingers on the palate, the more bitter it becomes, from bitter orange to black tea steeped too long. The alcohol bites again later on. The finish is also dominated by bitterness. I'm not really convinced, but it's still young 😎"

"#4561 19.01.2024 Got a set of samples from a former colleague in Sweden and today I'll give them a go. My tastebuds are still hyper sensitive, which can be both good and bad. Pretty good Grand Arôme with nice fruits and light esters on the nose alongside faint glue notes. The palate is well rounded, spicy and has nice berry and tomato notes. The finish is medium to long and oily with light herbs and medicinal notes. The empty glass has light chocolate and strawberry notes as well as faint smoke."

"#4454 05.11.2023 just came back after visiting a former colleague and he offered a few rums to try. I only have notes because I came unprepared 😊 Nose: roasted wood, plums, raisin, light citrus and nutts. Palate: well rounded, wood, raisin, citrus, light licorice. Finish!: medium long with wood, cherry, citrus and nutts. The empty glass has some chocolate and light grassy notes."

"02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the second half of the tastings. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, faint smoke, coconut, citrus, spice. Palate Round, wood, tannins, light smoke, fruity, banana, citrus, faint coffee, warm. Finish Medium long, wood, tannins, orange, light nutts, faint coconut."

"Super Nase. Vanille, Karamell, getrocknete Früchte. Darüber schweben schöne Lösungsmittel- und Lacknoten. Erdig, frisch (Artischoke?). Sehr komplex, allein länger daran zu riechen erfreut das Herz. Sehr komplex und würzig im Mund. Ein wirklich toller Rum. So schön können Lösungsmittel- und Lacknoten sein.🤪 Schade, dass er so selten ist."

Top review from Vincent D:

Top review from Andi:
"I find it super well-balanced, extremely tasty and drinkable, exactly to my taste at the moment. Addendum: Photo + still one of my favorites! I could drink it every day. I've lowered my rating from 9.5 to 8.9 points, I still think it's drinkable. But my inexperience and lack of comparisons led me to do so at the time."

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This is an expensive drop and the price is probably high because of the rareness of the release and what it celebrates. Overall the rum is well balanced, lightly sweet and kind of light. Fruity with spices and caramel on top. Would be a nice collectors item in my mind."
Small Batch Rare Rums
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"I was a bit disappointed because these rare releases are usually pretty good. This one however fell outside the normal range and is a bit out of balance in my mind. I'd say their regular Small Batch Rare Rums Enmore is better. Price to quality is off on this one by quite a margin actually."

Top review from cigares :
"Sour apple and vegetal on the nose with vermouth, reminds me of green Chartreuse. The palate is soft, still with vermouth. The aromas crumble and the finish is a little short. But the vegetal flavors persist for quite a long time. The empty glass brings different aromas, with a hint of lemon. A quiet river meanders through the tall grass."

"This is yet another wonderful rum from the wildlife collection. The nose can be picked up from quite some distance away. A heavy and wonderful nose that sets off fruity mixed with some polish followed with nice spices and a woody touch. The palate is complex yet well balanced with fruits and spices. In the back i get wonderful licorice and toffee. The finish is long with coffee, spices and fruits. I get some nougat in there as well. "

"Another freat rum that is extremely rare now. I was lucky to get a sample and at the time of release the price to quality was very good. You may still be able to get it at auction for an OK price. Very fresh and floral with fruits and leather. Lightly dry, complex and intense in a way. If you get the chance give it a go."

"29.01.2022 The big Caroni tasting with old rum buddies, good food, snacks and a lot of talking about old times. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Wood, roasted, workshop, light smoke, fruity, spices, light tar and rubber. Palate Oily, wood, roasted, fruity, banana, tar, light rubber, light smoke. Finish Long and warm, oily, wood, roasted, light rubber and tar, fruits."
Rhum Santa Lucilia
Top review from cigares :
"Un beau nez fruité avec du végétal, de la cerise, de l’ananas rôti, des herbes sèches et de la vanille. La bouche est décevante, diluée, simple voire simpliste, chaude et les beaux arômes du nez ont disparu. La finale est courte, un peu poussiéreuse, amère et bizarre tout à la fin avec un boisé sec. Un beau nez ici, plus fruité que les agricoles en général mais la bouche est maigre et la finale pas très agréable."

"Considering the price tag on this rum you get a lot for your money. This is a Haitian rum so it will de ide the waters. You either like it or not. Fresh and lightly fruity with a touch of wood and spices. Spicy and warm on the palate with some bitterness without it being dominant."
Demerara VSG
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Despite the price tag I gad to try this release and it didn't disappoint me. The price tag may be high, but is is also an old rum. Nice and fruity on the nose with some leather notes. Once rested even more notes appear. The palate is warm, dry and well balanced. Despite the age the wood isn't dominant but mixes very well with the fruits and floral notes. The finish warm and medium to long and dry with dried fruit and wood."

Top review from Galli33:
"Very smooth delicious Hampden LROK. The alcohol is integrated very well. The barrel/wood hasn‘t an high impact here, it‘s well noted in the finish only. Unfortunately, the nose lasts long in the glass (neither with a cover)… so I substract 3 points. Nose: Classic Hampden funk notes grilled pineapple, ester, glue, varnish, overripe fruits, overripe bananas, peaches, green apples, freshness with a bit of coconut graters. Mouth: Delicious, funky, glue, elegant, trop fruits, pineapple, banana at the end the various notes of the barrel will take over. Finish: long fruity, pineapple, green apple, woody, dry, toasted, roasted. The barrel notes are well noted, but will never be overwhelming or astringent"

"18.12.2021 Participating in a nice tasting given to me as a present. Nice hotel in a very central location. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, floral, light caramel, berries, banana, light orange. Palate Oily, balanced, light roasted wood, light floral, faint cherry, banana, overripe, anise, light leather, light ginger. Finish Medium to long, oily, fruity, banana, overripe, faint leather. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while to release all its wonderful flavours."

"Another old tasting where I noted that the ABV should have been higher because it was a really light profile. Fruity with nice spices and an oily palate. Have a note that the empty glass had nutty flavours."
