"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first one of the six. Despite this one being a young rum from the destillery it still manages to be very complex with a very nice nose and palate. The vanilla is perfectly matched with the rest and the finish is long and has a bit of smoke to it. All in all a very good price tag for this bottle. This bottle won gold at the International Rum Expert Panel 2010."

The latest one just consists of different rum from Guyana. The one I review here is the latest one. I think it’s quite complex with a good balance between sweetness and dryness."

"The nose is vanilla forward. Quite a lot of esters and a subtle citrus and white chocolate note. The palate has the vanilla from the nose but it's more mineral and less fruity. Some exotic woods. The finish is quite short. Vanilla and toasted coconut mainly. Overall its a decent white rum. I'm not too much of a fan of this mixed but it's very reasonably priced and not bad neat."

"This rum people can only agree to disagree on. Sipping it i feel like being on an island in Greece. This is a rum on the cheaper end of the spectrum, so considering the price you get a good rum. Probably a good rum for beginners. The nose is sweet and has fruit and herbs to it with a touch of wood. The palate lacks complexity but is sweet with fruits and vanilla and a tad of burnt barrel. The finish is medium and once again the vanilla is dominant with a nice plum on the side. Price to quality is very good. "

Total aging is six to eleven years.I think it’s a little bit better than their classic Reserve. The wood is there and so are the spices and semi heavy caramel, but it is a far better version. If you get the chance then give it a try. Price to quality is very good."

"Most people wants to find rum with good value for money. Well, here it is. It’s very hard to find anything better for this amount of money. The only one I found is the English Harbour 5yo. It’s a blend of separately aged rums in ex-Bourbon barrels distilled from Coffey and pot stills. After blended it’s aged for six months more in oak vats. The average age of the blend is 5 years. There’s really something special with its flavours and nice afterburn. After what I have heard it’s the most consumed rum in St. Lucia. So it can’t be more karibik. This is a very good everyday rum to a very low price."

"I think this rum is one of the most misunderstood ones in the market. I've been travelling in Japan and tried a lot of their spirits and it with that in mind I scored this rum. The nose starts off with whisky and sake, yes, sake. Then the vegetal and grassy notes appear with some oak and caramel. The palate is light yet complex with sake and Agricole notes. Later you have sake and the vegetal notes mixed with smoke and oak. The finish is medium long with sake and vegetal notes to it. The price is high for such a young rum, but nothing from Japan is cheap. "

"One of the epic rum mixers, that was used by Victor Bergeron when he created Mai Tai back in 1944. The nose is mostly fruity and spicy. At the palate the fruitiness dominates with flavors of citrus, banana and pineapple. The finish has a certain sweetness and a long spiciness."

"Un rhum de Panama qui se détache un peu de la tradition hispanique pure avec quelques arômes un peu plus développés. Le nez est pour le coup doux mais assez varié, les notes florales et de tabac rajoutant un peu de complexité aux notes épicées et caramélisées classiques. Les fruits et le chocolat sont aussi présents. On retrouve en bouche un rhum doux dont la puissance a été atténuée, mais le boisé est plus perceptible que les notes sucrées habituelles. La finale repose sur des notes épicées et vanillées principalement avec un soupçon de fruits. Un rhum qui n’a rien de révolutionnaire mais qui permet de se détacher de la tradition hispanique pour les néophytes."

The bottle comes in a nice wooden box with a sliding front which is pretty fancy for a rum in this price range. "This rum has turned my drinking behavior upside down. Before that, I drank wine almost exclusively. This daiquiri opened up a new world for me. "Wild fermentation, freshcut grass" was on the menu at Gone Away Bar (RIP😪).It's mostly the fermented, savory, salty vegetal flavors that set this Cane Juice rum apart from the French agricoles. The nose is marked by savory antipasti: olives, artichokes, hot peppers. In addition, grass and tobacco. Fruit is there too: gooseberry and lime, but quite a bit behind. In the daiquiri it becomes a bit fruitier and fresher. The savory notes, however, remain and you have to like them. I like them.In the mouth it is soft but still quite unusual: olives, olives, olives. Brine, ginger with green peppers. Also the often described mezcal note.In the finish more olive, artichokes and brine.Pure is honestly too crass for me, but in the daiquiri he is gigantic."

It has first been aged for at least 8 years whereafter it’s finished during 11 months in former Port Casks. At nose is oak, vanilla, chocolate and ripe fruits recognizable. In mouth and at the palate is flavors of oak, vanilla and chocolate detectable together with notes of port, hazelnut, dried fruits and cocoa. During the rather long finish is beside the above, notes of jasmine, coffee and plum found."

"Bought this bottle for over a year ago from Catawiki. Rhum HSE is produced at the Le Simon distillery in Martinique. It’s distilled in a Creole column and then aged for more than 3 years in American oak barrels whereafter it’s aged for more than 8 months in casks previously used for Port wine. Overall one of the best port cask finished rums I’ve tasted."

"Some call this new 15yo for “Nelson’s Blood”, but it’s definitely not the same. This one isn’t nearly as sweet as the “Nelson’s Blood” and there isn’t written “Nelson’s Blood” on the label either. Overall it’s a very good rum, but probably quite long from what a Navy rum tasted way back in time. I would say if you like the other rum in Pusser’s range you will also like this one. The same goes for if you like the El Dorado 12 or/and 15, but think they are a little too sweet."

"Retasting and it did lose some points 😊 ------- This one concludes this week's tastings. Angostura has done it again. Another great rum and this one is a tad better than their 12 year old. This one was blended by John George's and he did a really good job. After blending it matured for 15 years in oak and you can taste that oak. A fruity well balanced rum with a long and full bodied finish."

"This is a step up from the 5+5 and in a good way. More complexity and a wonderful nose after resting for 15 minutes. There is something tropical about this nice rum. The nose sets off with vanilla and caramel followed by barrel and some orange. The palate is nicely balanced between the proof and spices/oak/barrel. Almond, chocolate and molasses follow and sweet, spice and sherry tops it off. The finish is medium long, warm and some spices."

"The molasses is bought from Dom.Rep. and Guyana. After distillation it’s aged in former bourbon barrels of American oak, which are charred, for between 10 and 25 years. To enhance the oak taste is a handful of oak chips added to each barrel. In my opinion is it a great rum that overall is very dry and oaky."

"Overall an tasty and smooth Agricole. It’s a selection of agricole rums aged in new 200 liters American oak casks for 12 to 24 months. HSE is made at the distillery Le Simon which is the same distillery that produces Clement and A1710. From the distillery it’s said: “This rum will delight both in a Ti-Punch as well as in cocktails.”, but I’ve tested it neat and thinks it works well that way."

"Got this as a present for Christmas, never reviewed it. Strange! To the nose it reminds me of a sweet and sour, think sirupy Marmelade, of the sort I would like to have on my toast, right now. On the tongue, it's more of the same, more wood. Unfortunately is a bit watery, due to the low ABV, but does also gjve a long and heavy mouthfeel. What that would have been at a higher ABV. In the end there is a bit freshness as well... Mint perhaps? It's faint. It must be said, however, that this bottle has been open for quite some time now, and thus had lots time to breathe. The Rum is well made, for the mainstream market obviously, but makes a nice uncomplicated drink by the side. Enjoy! I finished this bottle now, and found that time did not do it well on the end. It got a bit watery in taste, which makes me subtract a point."

"Blind tasting 01.02.2024, 1st rum Nose: spicy at first, then sweeter and sweeter, Jamaica? Palate: no, not Jamaica, very light, but not typical Jamaican fruity-earthy; you can drink it, but you don't have to Resolution: Belize? I would never have guessed that. Definitely a good starter."

"A very smooth white agricultural rum. A lovely agricultural freshness perfumes the nostrils, with earthy, herbaceous and vegetal notes, accompanied by citrus fruits (lemon) that round out the angles. A hint of salt underscores the subtlety of the nose. The attack on the palate is ample, supple and pleasant. Citrus and dried fruit dominate the palate, leaving sugarcane and its vegetal notes more in the background. Round, fresh and very well structured. The finish, of decent length, is surprisingly warm, dry and slightly spicy. Vegetal and earthy flavors come back to the fore, in the face of citrus. A very fine cuvée that will delight all Ti Punch lovers."

Die Fruchtnoten rücken am Gaumen aber mit zunehmender Länge in den Hintergrund, dafür kommt eine schöne Süsse und etwas mehr Holzeinschlag zum Vorschein - dabei kippt der Rum aber keinesfalls in zu bittere Sphären. Leider fehlt mir insgesamt aber ein wenig die aromatische Raffinesse, weshalb am Ende ein zwar sehr leckerer Rum im Glas bleibt, der sich aber nicht ganz in die absolute Topliga einreihen kann."

"Don Q makes light, very light rum. Who expects flavor bombs is wrong here, neither full-bodied rum nor super heavy (and sweetened) wood can be found here. The star is the distillate, which comes elegant and delicate. Tasted neat, aromas of dried yellow fruits and wood show up, in the mouth a champagne-like quality is added, a touch of oleo saccharum combines with pear and the yellow fruits to create a wonderful delicate creaminess. The 40% unfortunately negates this somewhat.The finish is again a bit more tart and woody, delicate tannins and en touch of tobacco complete the picture. This is super crafted, pure but still very unspectacular. This rum is a mixer, but a mixer with star qualities. As a component in tiki drinks, it remains far in the background, where it belongs. It makes a super mojito, to which the light wood gives a great depth. The Old Cuban could become the signature drink, it combines perfectly with mint and champagne (or other brut sparkling wine). That's where it really takes off. If you're looking for a dry Spanish mixer that puts the distillate front and center, this is it. I'm a fan (neat: 70/cocktail:86): 78"

"The Ed. 39 from the Rumclub, a 2006 REV (RX16863), is already a very successful bottling, but RX16863 is no match for the Rumclub's new stroke of genius, especially on the palate. It is rounder, more complex, deeper, fuller-bodied, stronger, more palatable, sweeter, oilier. And I'm not saying that because I live in Berlin and am therefore close to the source. See for yourself. This is supposed to be a 2008 Diamond? It really seems to me that the barrel was mixed up and a REV was sent to Spirit of Rum instead of the Diamond. And not a 2006 REV, but actually a 1994. Can that really be the case? I hope there will soon be a comment function here, then I could read your direct reactions. For me, this is a hot contender for rum of the year without hesitation. Drink it and you'll agree with me. If it is a Diamond after all, which I hope will be verified by tasting experts, it seems to me to be most similar to the MDXC profile from 2004 (RX7442). Or perhaps the 96 (RX10043, RX10046)? 🤔 I'll stick with REV 1994 for now. 😉 Exciting!"

"10.02.2024 tasting event at the Nobilis Warehouse, Haderslev. Retasting and I really love the overall profile. ----------------------- #4232 03.09.2023 this was a nice blind tasting where I saw the black Glencairn tasting glasses for the first time. This is a great release. Intense yet extremely well balanced once rested. ABV and wood are amazingly well integrated. Medium fruity with nice spices and a warm oily palate. Draws really nice and slow moving curtains in the glass. The empty glass has light mint and caramel."

"Very pleasantly surprised! I've actually never had an Angostura in a glass before, so it was the best idea to taste this rum blind first. When I smelled it, my first association was that it must be a kind of TiPunch, with a very present, inviting citrus note. On the palate, it was a pleasantly spicy rum, not necessarily fruity. It wasn't until I could taste a lot of mint towards the end that I was relatively certain that it must be a TDL, one of the later ones (2008-2010). All right, very close - or maybe not. 😉 But that doesn't detract from my assessment at all: what a great rum with only 44.7%! 😋"

"This rum is really nice and I just had to go for seconds. The nose is well balanced with a mixture of grass, vanilla, fruits and a mixture of wood. The palate is balanced and complex with spices, fruit and flowery/Agricole touch to it. Chocolate and wood finishes the experience. The finish is medium long primarily cinnamon and tobacco with a bit of candy and grass to it. "

El Dorado 5 year old Fresh lime juice Maple syrup Mix rate 2/1/1 1 Banana 1 Fresh vanilla bean Scrape out the vanilla bean and put everything into a blender with ice cubes. If you have a high ABV demerara you can add one part to add a kick to it. "
