Plantation Extra Old XO 20th Anniversary
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Delicious and a lot of tropical fruit. Vanilla is coming through in this one and it sticks for a while.A super rum to sit and sip with your friends.A very good beginners rum in my mind,"
El Dorado 12
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"It’s quite sweet, almost too sweet. The new 2020 release is therefore much better. It tastes a lot of Demerara sugar. But I believe it’s one of the better entries to the rum world if you still can get a hold of a bottle."
Pampero Aniversario
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Tried to use this rum in a rum/raisin cake and the result was amazing. This is a rum in the cheaper end of the spectrum and it's definitely a good beginner rum. Not as sweet as the rums from Riise, but getting close to it. The nose is light and sweet with chocolate, vanilla and oak with a touch of butterscotch. The palate is sweet with chokolate and nougat, but it also has a slight bitterness with nuts and fruits. The endof the palate has smoke to it. The finish is sweet with smoky leather and vanilla. Price to quality is very good."
Plantation Grande Réserve
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Typical Barbadian in nose and palate. A very young rum so don't expect too much from it. A pleasant nose and ok semi complex fruity palate with a finish that ends almost before it begins. Price to quality is very good."
Flor de Caña 12 Años
Top review from Leo Tomczak:
"Tangy hazelnut liqueur with a slightly burning finish. Certainly sweetened, colored and flavored to spice up the neutral alcohol. Let's see how it performs in cola. It performs as expected in cola, although there's not much you can do wrong. Therefore a slight upgrade to 30. Nice and unobtrusive with ginger beer."
Dictador 20 Years
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the second one of the six. This is the second time I have this rum in a tasting and this time it got a few more points. This rum is made from sugarcane and honey molasses, which is pretty rare. In this rum you can really smell and taste the honey. This is a must try if you like Zacapa rum because they're pretty similar. Price to quality is very good. This rum won gold at the 2010 International Rum Expert Panel. "
Companero Ron Panama Extra Anejo
Top review from Tim :
"Dieser Rum ist etwas besonderes! 12 Jahre im Bourbon-Fass mit einem Finish in Fässern, die mit Kakao gefüllt waren, weshalb man hier die voll Drönung Schokolade bekommt. Etwas alkoholische Schärfe leider ist auch mit dabei."
Centenario Fundación 20 Años Reserva Especial
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"I think this is a very under rated rum. It's in the cheaper end yet its complexity is very convincing. A wonderful sweet, fruity and spice nose going into a complex well balanced heavy palate. The finish is long, a bit sweet and has a nice peppery sting to it. Price to quality is very good. "
Canerock
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Retasting this one and would have loved to try it at a higher ABV. Well price to quality is an absolute hammer. You get a lot for your money here. I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. The nose is complex and well rounded with fruit, and spices trailed by chocolate, coffee and caramel. Try and leave the empty glass for a few hours and then whif it again :-) The palate is sweet and fruity with wood, spices and caramel. The finish is medium long and sweet with wood, spices and a light minty note."
1796 Antiguo de Solera
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"One of the better Spanish styled “Ron”. It’s well balanced, smooth and not as sweet as most of the “Ron’s”. The nose is fruity and smoky as well as at the palate together with vanilla. Unfortunately is the finish much too short."
Ryoma Rhum Japonais
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"I think this rum is one of the most misunderstood ones in the market. I've been travelling in Japan and tried a lot of their spirits and it with that in mind I scored this rum. The nose starts off with whisky and sake, yes, sake. Then the vegetal and grassy notes appear with some oak and caramel. The palate is light yet complex with sake and Agricole notes. Later you have sake and the vegetal notes mixed with smoke and oak. The finish is medium long with sake and vegetal notes to it. The price is high for such a young rum, but nothing from Japan is cheap. "
8 Años
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"The nose is nice, it’s easy to drink and a rather short finish goes the same way as at the palate. It’s very unclear where this rum is distilled, cause they don’t have any stills at the Hacienda Coloma so they are probably just aging, blending and bottling it. In the end of the aging they finish it in former Coloma Coffee Liqueur barrels."
XO 175 Anniversary Rum
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This is definitely a rum for the fan base of A. H. Riise. Sweet like the usual rums from this company. The nose is sweet and fruity with a tad of smoke and mint. The palate is very sweet and the fruitiness continues from the nose. Creamy charred mint and vanilla. The finish is short to medium long and sweet with orange and oak. A tad too sweet for me but it will probebly have a huge fan base out there. "
Dictador XO Insolent / Platinum
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the fourth one of the six. Another great surprise beating the Perpetual by one point. This rum is almost perfectly balanced in the spice and sweetness and a pretty complex one as well. Like pure silk when it passes down your throat. Price to quality is very good on this one as well. "
Original Admiralty (Blue Label)
Top review from Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪:
"Very distinctive rum. I cannot say it is a good rum, but it is full of curious olfactory surprises. In my opinion it renders better in the nose than in the mouth. Many nuances on the nose, coffee and well-roasted caramel predominate on the palate with a faint woody note. Medium finish with coffee predominating. The banana that I felt lightly on the nose disappeared on the palate. Fun rum for an out-of-the-box tasting."
New Grove Emotion
Top review from Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓:
"It is rare, far too rare, to discover a diamond among pebbles. And if it happens by chance, it's all the more incredible. But it actually happened with this rum! I'm still blown away. The rum already promises a lot on the nose and reminds me of an old Demerara. So tempting that I can't wait to taste it. Very fruity on the palate, overripe blackcurrants? The alcohol is more perfectly integrated than I have ever experienced with any other rum. The maximum has really been extracted from the 47% vol. The only small drawback: a slight lack of depth and intensity due to the low ABV. But such a small "impurity" is easy to get over with such a fine diamond, isn't it? Top rum under the radar. Update 2023-10-06: The rum remains a top product for me, but has found its champion in the Savoir Faire 2009 with 60% (RX2744). Update 2023-10-18: Tasting again against the RX2744, this time direct. And I have to say that a direct comparison is really enlightening - and doesn't end well for the Emotion 1969 ... It seems like the league leader of the 2nd division playing at the top level in its class against a Champions League team ... 🙄 Try it out and you'll find it confirmed. RumX Advent calendar 09.12.2023 (blind tasting) I wrote in the appropriate place before solving the puzzle: Yes, on the nose I'm also more with FS, although what's amazing here is that you really perceive zero alcohol! A completely different rum on the palate: Not warm-caramel like on the nose, but clearly red-fruity and a little spicy. And what do I always associate with red fruit? That's right, Mauritius! Since this rum is not an alcohol monster, but rather under 50% vol. I'm guessing RX2495. Of course, it could also be another New Grove from Grays with around 45% vol. as there are still a few around ... Or maybe even a TDL. In any case, I like the rum very much. :yum::yum::yum:"
Villa Rica Single Barrel Rum
Top review from Artur Schönhütte:
"This one is kind of bad. Not really an exciting entry from Mexico. In core this remind some of bad south american rums. This would be unspectacular. But this one's has the burn and taste of artificial sweetener. This really takes about 15 points off I would assume..."
Jamaica XO Extra Old
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"25.05.2019 Sitting at home enjoying some nice samples. Notes Light in colour. Nose Intense, ester, fruity, banana, overripe, light mineral, vanilla, light roasted wood,. Palate Round, spicy, medium dry, fruity, banana, ester, light caramel. Finish Medium long, fruity, warm, light caramel."
Clément XO
Top review from Martin Ekrt:
"I almost forgot the cast sample before disposing of the bottle. Very fine aroma of fruit, apple, nutmeg. The taste is also more subtle. Again, apple, peanuts and bergamot tea, cognac. Similar finish. A very fine rum for easy sipping."
Deadhead Dark Chocolate Flavoured
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"A chocolate liqueur with aromas and flavors of dark chocolate but even more vanilla besides all the sweetness. So it’s actually more of a vanilla & sugar bomb that is almost nearly undrinkable if you expect a rum."
Dictador XO Perpetual / Aurum
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first third of the six. This was a really nice surprise. A much netter rum than I expected, a nice complex rum with a hint of vanilla in the back. Very well balanced and a delight. Sweet but not too sweet unless you like dry or Agricole style rums. Price to quality is very good. "
Guatemala XO 20th Anniversary Edition
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Retasting at Romdeluxe. Had a relaxing online tasting yesterday and it had a vide spread between low and high end rums. A very well balanced rum. Price to quality is very good."
Opthimus 25 Años Malt Whisky Finish (TOMATIN)
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This is a retasting and I'll leave the old comment and change the points 😊 This is a malt finish og their normal 25 and you definitely get the barrel finish. The nose is sharp in the beginning so leave if for 15 minutes ad you get rewarded with fruits, vanilla and caramel. There is a bit of earthiness about it. The palate is mild and well rounded with a lot of tropical fruits, berries and grapes topped with vanilla and oak. The finish is medium to long with a sweet stickiness followed by fruit, cocoa and caramel."
Opthimus 25 Años
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"Retasting and leaving the original note 😊 This is a really good rum and also one for beginners because the proof is lower than normal. Easy to drink and enjoy with friends that may not like the more biting rums. The nose is sweet with the barrel to it and then some caramel. The palate is heavily influenced by the molasses and it almost ruins the taste for me. Fruity and the barrel is clearly there. The finish is sweet and medium long with a touch of fruits and oak."
Centenario 18 Años Reserva de la Familia
Top review from Timo Groeger:
"Der nächste Rum aus der preislichen Mittelklasse. Schmeckt ganz ok, leicht nach Schokolade und Karamell wie ich finde. Kann man pur einigermaßen genießen, gibt aber natürlich viel, viele bessere als diesen :)"
13 Years - Rare Proof
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"I’m not a big fan of the Spanish styled Ron, but I like the Rare Proof series from Malecon. I believe it depends on the rich taste and that the sweetness is very good balanced with the quite high ABV. This one isn’t the best of them, but certainly a very good one anyway."
Botran Cobre
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"The palate is very medicinal almost like a well balanced cough syrup without being too dominant. It has a nice herbal flavour to it with a bit of smoke and sweetness. The finish is medium long with a medicinal/herbal touch to it. Judging it as a spiced rum, they did a very good job."
Black Spiced Rum
Top review from LukaŽiga:
"6:On the nose, this is indeed a spiced rum. Spices and licorice are present, but vanilla is even more so. There's also a hint of cherry. 6,4:Sweet on the palate. The ever-present spices (clove) are joined this time by orange. Vanilla is also present. 6:The finish is sweet, on spices and vanilla. Drinkable also neat...."
Green Label Overproof Select Aged 151 (Green Label)
Top review from Stefan Persson:
"Overall I think it’s balanced and smooth. It’s a blend of rum from Guyana at 75,5%. There’s as far as I know two older versions of the Overproof. The oldest on with a blue label at 75% is a blend of rum from Guyana and Trinidad. Thereafter they released a green label at 75% with a blend of rum from Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados which I believe went quite short lived. The big difference between this one and the Green Label 75% is that the Demerara impacts even more and that it’s a little bit less round in taste."
Spiced Rum
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"I use this rum for baking. I put raisins into a cup and drow. Them in this rum. Then I add the raisins and leftover rum when preparing the dough. Just tried to add the rum to my run for chicken wings, that works as a charm as well 😋"
Opthimus 21 Años
Top review from cigares :
"Un rhum de bonne facture avec des arômes très nets. Le nez est entier, comme un dessert au caramel, avec des épices. La bouche ressemble au nez, des arômes assez simples mais très agréables. Un bon rhum dans l’ensemble mais il manque des watts, de la profondeur et de la complexité."
Arcane Cane Crush
Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the second half of the tastings. Notes Transparent in colour. Nose Fresh, floral, Agricole, sugarcane, citrus. Palate Warm, fresh, sugarcane, medium dry, floral, vegetal, fruity, citrus. Finish Medium long, fruity, sugarcane, light floral."
Botran Anejo Oro
Top review from Timo Groeger:
"Muss sagen, dass mich dieser Rum überrascht hat. Dachte für 8 Euro kann man nix erwarten, aber meiner Meinung nach geschmacklich im Bereich eines durchschnittlichen 40% Rums. Von daher alles in Ordnung ;-)"
Hee Joy VSOP
Top review from Vincent D:
"Tasted quickly in the cellar. Frankly, I wouldn't have bet a Euro on it, but I must admit that the nose was promising (banana, esters, vanilla, sugar), albeit light. On the palate, the reduction is there, but there's still power. We're in Jamaica, with my usual markers but a sweet cane side that remains present. Not very complex, but quite nice."
Kikongo Jungle Rhum
Top review from LukaŽiga:
"6,7:On the nose, the first impression we get is a sugar cane shot, roasted with some medicinal notes, that very quickly turn in vegetal spectre with an olive and brine. Floral notes join after. When we air it, cocoa comes out, as nuts with almond, walnut, weak dried fruits and a raspberry. 7:On the palate, the attack is very spicy, woody and dry. Sugar cane is still mineral. There is no sweetness. Vegetal and floral, flowery with geranium notes are here with red fruits like raspberries. Chocolate and nuts round the first attack.Later intense woodiness and dryness with tannins. 7,2:The finish is long, mineral, woody and dry with spices and chocolate. There is no price/performance in this Rhum, as it costs over 100 €. I don't recommend it. Well, I don't know what to say🙁."
