"Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first one of the six. Despite this one being a young rum from the destillery it still manages to be very complex with a very nice nose and palate. The vanilla is perfectly matched with the rest and the finish is long and has a bit of smoke to it. All in all a very good price tag for this bottle. This bottle won gold at the International Rum Expert Panel 2010."

An ideal entry-level rum into the high-quality world of tropically aged Caronis with a price-performance ratio that is no longer quite so easy to finance, but still relatively good for Caroni. Excellent."

In addition, chocolate melt, hints of latte, fine spices, caramel, a touch of dried fruit and allspice ... I am impressed time and again by the aromatic force that this bottling conjures up in the glass. That a completely tropically stored Guyana in the Skeldon Marque with such a high-class profile remains available for so long at the issue price is in view of the current demand m.E. not rationally explainable - but shall be fine with me. An absolute price-performance tip, even at prices well beyond the 200€."

"I just love this rum so I have ordered yet another backup bottle. This is a pretty well blended and also well balanced rum from Black Tot. Spicy bit well balanced with the other elements and you barely get a burn from the proof once rested for 15 minutes. The dominant rum in this blend is clearly the one from Guyana. You only get hints of the ones from Jamaica and Barbados. For the price a pretty good rum."

Unfortunately lately Velier is releasing overpriced bottlings where you pay for the brand and less for the quality of the product. Personally I would never buy it taking into account that the overproof can be found at 80 euros and this at 110 and the younger at 59."

"The distillery founded in 1785, still produce their rum as it was done back in that time. The cane is crushed by a waterwheel driven mill. It’s wild fermented. They don’t use any temperature control and the double retort copper pot stills is heated with dried Bagasse. Finally it’s bottled straight from the stills. They use sugar cane juice instead of molasses, but it’s not an Agricole cause they use different methods. Overall it’s a funky rum rich on esters and congeners. It’s probably not for everyone, but I just love everything around it and I think it beats the Jamaican white Overproof’s."

"06.10.2023 retasting between 2021 - 2022 - 2023 and it lost a few points. ------ Now we have 3 great Black Tot releases. The 50th Anniversary, Master Blender 2021 and Master Blender 2022 and I like them all. They're also scored pretty closely to each other by me. The releases are really close to each other so the day decides which one wins. I like the darkness of it with smoky wood and warm palate as well as the long finish. I was very surprised at the final result when sipping this one at the German Rum Fest and I will have a few bottles when accessible."

"A rather harsh rum when the sample is opened, it takes a few hours, but then synthetic varnish and fruit galore on the nose. Apple, pineapple, overripe banana. After a long wait, the palate is rather soft, the varnish fortunately more discreet, giving way to fruit and a vegetal note (lime blossom). The finish is long and fruity, with yellow and tropical fruits. I love it! A fine rum with balance and elegance on the palate and finish, but you have to be patient and disregard the first nose. It probably lacks age, but I definitely like Long Pond."

"Retasting and I still like it a lot. ------- This is also e very expensive bottle and I'd say the price can be argued, but you can't argue the quality of the rum. The nose just hits you right in the face. Fruit and smoky oak hits you first and then comes the molasses and caramel with a whif of leather. The palate is complex yet wonderfully balanced. Roasted wood and oak hit the palate right away closely followed molasses, vanilla and light chocolate. There is an ever so light bitterness to the palate. The finish is long and surprisingly smooth with oak, vanilla and dried fruit."

The base should be the same as the 50th anniversary but this one is more fruity and there are more esters in comparison. A great rum and the quality to price is very good. I was so lucky that they allowed me to buy two bottles :-) Enjoying this nice rum again and I stand by my score. Very good rum especially thinking about the price tag. Retasting this one today and I really like it. Good that I have several backup bottles."

This has more „Hampden“ power and the Sherry barrel is integrated much better (due the change of the barrels… maybe?) and the sherry stays more in the background like a faithful campanion and fit perfect with the Hampden flavours. "Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Very round Caroni, which has not been harmed by the slight reduction to Navy Strength. The rum brings the 96 sweetness in perfection to the expression, in addition sounds rubber, fresh oak and vorallem a present spiciness from coffee, pepper and clove. Was for a long time a still well available Caroni representative from 1996, but has now "caught up" and is also increasing in price - but here it may at least be noted that the quality in the glass is absolutely convincing. An excellent representative of the m.E. anyway outstanding vintage 1996."

"Excellent rum! All elements are in perfect balance, none overpowering the other. On the nose the caramel throws off thinking you will find a sweet flavor, instead the rum comes out slightly bitter and dry. Later in the mouth, toasty, woody, spicy and grape notes are noticeable. The caramel gone, perhaps cocoa or chocolate. The finish is medium long with the persistence of the grape and after that more tobacco, but still all very soft.A rum that given the distillery and aging I would have expected something more!"

"Loving long ponds, I decided to purchase a white. I expected more marzipan, which I love in its aged counterpart, however it is a remarkable white. Complex, strong in the solvent part, but never overdone. Olive and esters on the nose. In the mouth solvents and a fleeting roasted/smoky note. On the finish pineapple and lychee, medium-long duration.Whites for me must have a different evaluation than amber."

Those notes are accompanied by lots of ripe and dried fruits and some herbs (a hint of menthol?). The fruit notes are rather intense making this the best MG nose I experienced so far. Lots of wood on the palate without being to dry or bitter. Dark choclate and some dried fruits show up to the party. Nice. This one needs quite some time to breath to fully open up but delivers a very nice MG expression."

"RumX Awards 2023 and re-tasted 6 months later. Despite its age, the esters are very present without dominating. Buttery, nicely acidic, lemony, overripe banana, grilled bacon and yellow fruit make up a nose that remains balanced despite its complexity. The attack is lively and explosive, with fat (butter) tempering the fire and fruit filling the mouth. Yellow fruit (pear and apple) and young wood. The finish is long, elegant and fresh. No flaws here, everything is clean and precise. The wood is perfectly integrated. The fruit remains right to the end. In the empty glass, you discover an unprecedented sweetness, with the wood clearly perceptible. The favorite rum of this top RumX selection."

I personally like the profile very much and catapults the bottling consequently also in the top range. No classic Diamond essence, rather 70s Demerara notes with tart, heavy sweetness. An absolutely outstanding release."

"First impression at the HanseSpirit:Fulfills exactly the expectations I had and whose fulfillment I had hoped.Fruity, oily, pleasant workshop aromas...Nachtasting follows.So, and now again in peace at home:Nose: totally pleasant, spicy-fruity, with this special oily texture, which together with pencil shavings and some varnish or glue reminiscent of the fumes from a precision engineering workshop. Interesting also an intense yogurt note that underscores the subtle fruity sweetness. In fruit here gooseberry with lime together with canola honey. The over 60% is very well integrated here. 86Palate: initially that oily, artificial attack again, slightly salty-bitter, with pencil mien. Slightly resinous and something like polish to it. The fruit is again reminiscent of gooseberry, this time with lime zest. Also, the yogurt note comes through clearly again. I really like it. 84Must correct the rating from yesterday significantly upwards. Now 85 instead of 80. Very nice Fiji profile!"

"Bringt ein sehr ähnliches Grundprofil wie die beiden El Dorados aus 97 und 99, wirkt etwas ausgewogener - weit weniger Säure am Gaumen, dafür etwas mehr Holz und schwere Süsse. Der Alkohol ist aber sehr präsent, was für mich klare Abzüge bedingt. Einer der schwächeren Velier Demeraras."

The aroma profile is almost identical, but is somewhat stronger in the spicy notes and at the same time has less expression in the vanilla notes that were so famous in the 1996 SVW. For me, therefore, just below the magic 9.0-point mark, but of course still an exquisite release."

"In der Nase wirkt das Ganze äußerst entspannt: Es entfaltet sich ein Mix aus Frucht, viel Vanille, etwas Muskatnuss, Holz, Blüten und gebranntem Zucker. Was für eine Einladung, den Rum direkt zu probieren. Im Mund setzt sich dieser Eindruck fort. Angenehm würzig, dezente Kokosnuss-Noten, viiiieel Vanille, ein wenig Salz, junges Holz (damit nicht sehr bitter) und Milchschokolade, Lakritz und Bitterorange. Schmeckt wie ein Mix aus intensivem Spanier und Foursquare mit Salz. Der Koloa Single Cask hat etwas Nussig-Cremiges, die Textur erinnert uns ein wenig an Erdnussbutter."

"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: A striking fruitiness awaits us on the nose, which increasingly combines with Caroni-typical notes of rubber, tar and some caramel. On the palate, the aforementioned aromas are paired with a rich menthol note, the high alcohol content also comes into play and a little oxidation is recommended. Overall at a very high Caroni level, which promises exquisite quality (the tropically aged bottlings are in a league of their own). From the 2000 vintage, which is also very convincing in terms of quality, this is one of the weaker bottlings in relative terms, which is due to the alcohol not being fully integrated. Nevertheless, anyone who finds their way to Caroni with such bottlings is on an enviably high-quality path."

"Nach den ganzen guten Bewertungen hatte ich beim erneuten Verkosten gehofft hier eine positive Überraschung zu erfahren. Leider ist das nicht der Fall. Für mich ist der Alkohol nicht gut eingebunden, die Aromen von hellen Früchten sind mir bei diesem Rum zu subtil. Besser gefallen mir die kurz aufflackernden Gebäck und Gewürzaromen am Gaumen. Der Abgang ist eher scharf und kurz. Der Rum scheint seine Genießer zu haben, die dennoch lange Verfügbarkeit und der vergleichbar gute Preis erschließen sich mir."

"RumX Rarities day 8. A classic Demerara nose with varnished wood, leather, smoke, encaustic and tropical fruit in the background. The palate has a gentle attack, then develops lots of aromas. Prunes appear and incense transforms the English club into a medieval church. Smokiness is more pronounced than on the nose. Slightly unpleasant spiciness on the mid-palate. The finish is long on wood/plum/smoke/incense. A very fine rum, the kind that tells a story. I like it very much. The empty glass sees the tropical fruit reappear. The spiciness of the mid-palate takes a few points off."

"Definitely on par with the predecessor 94 REV from Bellamys. Flavors a little more cassis, more burnt caramel, dark chocolate and rosemary / lavender, as well as dried fig and grapefruit peel. Also very tasty but really hard to say which one I like better!Flavor-wise this one is a bit more intense and has the longer finish due to the more %, but the other one is a bit more complex if you let it and has the nicer nose. Both at eye level!"

"Very complex without becoming unbalanced at any point. The wood note is particularly impressive, giving the rum a noble depth that borders on the bitter without overpowering the other notes. Heavy, dense consistency. Very nicely integrated alcohol. The only "fly in the ointment": Tasted blind, it doesn't stand out enough in comparison with other Skeldons for me to agree with the perfect score. However, this does not detract from its outstanding quality."

"A rum you can't really dislike. Super pleasing, sweet profile, without ever seeming clumsy, sticky or uninteresting. The other flavors around smoke, spice and nuts are also so harmoniously embedded that there is neither too much bitterness, spicy sharpness nor too hackneyed sweetness. This balance is unfortunately somewhat at the expense of complexity, which is why it is not enough for me to the very highest consecration. Nevertheless, impressive quality and an excellent rum that shows its existing flavor profile in perfection."

"A rum that was somewhat under my radar for a long time - but that doesn't do the bottling justice. The <S> Marque by Diamond is quite recognizable thanks to the dominant liquorice notes. The Versailles component comes forward with minerality, plus the oak barrel with its sweet vanilla note. Clearly the best Demerara blend from Velier in my eyes."

"Also a retaste for me and again I stick to the initial score. A light Caroni in my ming but the overall balance is really good. In my mind the price tag on this rum is high compare to what you get. That said it's still a pretty good Caroni. Not super heavy in the traditional notes, but a more controlled version. The rubber and tar is there as well as nice wood and light fruit with light spice, mint and also herbal notes."

"I'm being nice giving this one 70, because I have an unopened bottle at home. I now know this is one I gave to experiment with in mixers. The nose is light and fruity with cane and cinnamon.
