"This was the odd one out and also a huge surprise. Considering the price tag you get a lot for your money. I found out that it needed to rest for at least 15 minutes and at 30 minutes the flavours just come at you. Intense and fruity with nice spices and cane. I really like the floral note from nose to finish and even the empty glass was wonderful after a while. Loking forward to our S.B.S and Silver Seal tasting next week."

"Day 1 Samples de Luxe calendar. Tasted again a year and a half later. Pale yellow color. On the nose, banana compote, Jamaican funk, rum raisins and a vegetal, dried herb side. On the palate, a fairly lively attack with alcohol and tropical fruit. Nice aromas, but rather one-dimensional, like a fruit spirit. Long finish, a little more interesting than the palate. Very well-integrated wood. A very fine rum. To be tasted again after a little oxidation. It's done, and the oxidation gives this rum a beautiful harmony."

"06.10.2023 retasting between 2021 - 2022 - 2023 and it lost a few points. ------ Now we have 3 great Black Tot releases. The 50th Anniversary, Master Blender 2021 and Master Blender 2022 and I like them all. They're also scored pretty closely to each other by me. The releases are really close to each other so the day decides which one wins. I like the darkness of it with smoky wood and warm palate as well as the long finish. I was very surprised at the final result when sipping this one at the German Rum Fest and I will have a few bottles when accessible."

This has more „Hampden“ power and the Sherry barrel is integrated much better (due the change of the barrels… maybe?) and the sherry stays more in the background like a faithful campanion and fit perfect with the Hampden flavours. Grilled pineapple meets sour cherries overwhelmed by esters 🤤🥃 The alcohol is very present, i would say typical for a young Hampden."

"I wasn't a fan of the Papalin range until now. But La Velier has come up with a very good Reunionese at a nice price. It's a perfect representation of the rhums trad found there, with the fruity side of the grand aroma, present but not overpowering. It drinks well, is pleasant, vegetal, floral, woody and fruity. A great success. In the end, it's what I expected from savanna's Le Must, which doesn't emphasize the fruitiness of the grand arôme enough. This is the case here."

The palate has a fairly lively attack, with fruit and floral notes emerging later. The finish is long, with fruit and wood on the finish. Empty glass, fruit and wood varnish in harmony. A fine, lively, well-balanced rum. It lacks a little depth, but it's very well made and a pleasure to drink."

"Retasting this one today and I stick to my initial score. Typical Agricole with fruits, floral and fresh grass notes. You gat all the flavours as soon as you open the bottle. Leave for 15 minutes and then nose it. Leave the glass for a few hours after finishing it and it's even better on the nose. Price to quality is extremely good."

Fruity with medicinal notes are there from nose to finish. There is also oak and spice in the mix. Price to quality can be discussed all the way to the bank :-)"

"Excellent rum! All elements are in perfect balance, none overpowering the other. On the nose the caramel throws off thinking you will find a sweet flavor, instead the rum comes out slightly bitter and dry. Later in the mouth, toasty, woody, spicy and grape notes are noticeable. The caramel gone, perhaps cocoa or chocolate. The finish is medium long with the persistence of the grape and after that more tobacco, but still all very soft.A rum that given the distillery and aging I would have expected something more!"

"Overall a very interesting rum from Foursquare which is partly reminiscent of white Jamaica rum and Rivers Antoine. My good friend Björn “Romsoffan” offered me a glass of this somehow different Foursquare at Foursquare Appreciation Day, released by Habitation Velier. It’s what Richard Seale call, a Long Fermentation Type (LFT). It’s a Pot Still from both molasses and cane juice with Esters 555 gr/hlpa, which is the same level as HLCF from Jamaica."

La bouche plonge assez vite sur une sorte de réglisse et pruneaux, puis une papaye trop mûre et de la cire à parquets, le bois sous toutes ses formes et, très présent quand l’a repéré, le graphite/mine de crayon. Un côté médicaments amers me gêne un peu, surtout en fin de bouche. La finale est longue, sur la papaye trop mûre et le bois sous toutes ses formes. Le verre vide est marqué par la fumée et le chêne. Pas trop fan de ce rhum, même s’il raconte une histoire de vieux bois, il manque d’équilibre et des arômes déviants me gênent un peu."

"I love this oak forest. There are other unicorns besides the 1986 WIRD. You walk in a very old oak forest, fresh resin on the nose (the couch potato could also say glue), some orange keeps in the background, humus-rich forest floor on which grows damp moss. The taste continues with a pleasant bitterness for wood lovers, dried fruits keep in the background. Too much fruit here would also destroy the flair of the forest. With time in the glass, leather and vanilla come through more strongly. The finish is extremely long lasting, complemented by tobacco. Disappointed here who expects a maximum of complexity which is simply not very pronounced."

"A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2024 and Savanna high ester tasting. Overripe fruit on the nose, red fruit with banana, vegetal and light oak. The palate is lively and complex, with the same aromas as on the nose, plus a sort of bitter herb candy (Ricola) and dried herbs. Burnt caramel and pastries on the finish brighten up the dry herbs and vegetal. I find it much better than the Unshared Cask for France 2024."

"First impression at the HanseSpirit:Fulfills exactly the expectations I had and whose fulfillment I had hoped.Fruity, oily, pleasant workshop aromas...Nachtasting follows.So, and now again in peace at home:Nose: totally pleasant, spicy-fruity, with this special oily texture, which together with pencil shavings and some varnish or glue reminiscent of the fumes from a precision engineering workshop. Interesting also an intense yogurt note that underscores the subtle fruity sweetness. In fruit here gooseberry with lime together with canola honey. The over 60% is very well integrated here. 86Palate: initially that oily, artificial attack again, slightly salty-bitter, with pencil mien. Slightly resinous and something like polish to it. The fruit is again reminiscent of gooseberry, this time with lime zest. Also, the yogurt note comes through clearly again. I really like it. 84Must correct the rating from yesterday significantly upwards. Now 85 instead of 80. Very nice Fiji profile!"

The aroma profile is almost identical, but is somewhat stronger in the spicy notes and at the same time has less expression in the vanilla notes that were so famous in the 1996 SVW. For me, therefore, just below the magic 9.0-point mark, but of course still an exquisite release."

Finish is a bit to woody/bitter to fully satisfy. Interesting profile nevertheless! Edit after some oxidation: evolved nicely, smoothing out the profile. Gives associations to the 2000 WIRD „Rockley“s, yet a bit more nasty. Same verdict: interesting profile!"

"Absolutely extraordinary smell and taste worlds open up - in the nose planty-grassy aromas and green fruit and vegetable notes come to the fore, where I have immediate associations with green gooseberries, fruit bushes and grass, as well as subtle fresh herbs. Reminds me of pulling through the bushes on a spring day in the garden - I do not know so at all from rum. Next to it I have to think of unripe citrus fruits. On the palate, the impressions continue, though some typical Worthy Park notes come through here - dark pepper, some banana, caramel, smoke and wood. A very special profile that you have to like. Gets a little exotic bonus, but this certainly won't be my next Daily Sipper."

"The Ed. 39 from the Rumclub, a 2006 REV (RX16863), is already a very successful bottling, but RX16863 is no match for the Rumclub's new stroke of genius, especially on the palate. It is rounder, more complex, deeper, fuller-bodied, stronger, more palatable, sweeter, oilier. And I'm not saying that because I live in Berlin and am therefore close to the source. See for yourself. This is supposed to be a 2008 Diamond? It really seems to me that the barrel was mixed up and a REV was sent to Spirit of Rum instead of the Diamond. And not a 2006 REV, but actually a 1994. Can that really be the case? I hope there will soon be a comment function here, then I could read your direct reactions. For me, this is a hot contender for rum of the year without hesitation. Drink it and you'll agree with me. If it is a Diamond after all, which I hope will be verified by tasting experts, it seems to me to be most similar to the MDXC profile from 2004 (RX7442). Or perhaps the 96 (RX10043, RX10046)? 🤔 I'll stick with REV 1994 for now. 😉 Exciting!"

"A rum you can't really dislike. Super pleasing, sweet profile, without ever seeming clumsy, sticky or uninteresting. The other flavors around smoke, spice and nuts are also so harmoniously embedded that there is neither too much bitterness, spicy sharpness nor too hackneyed sweetness. This balance is unfortunately somewhat at the expense of complexity, which is why it is not enough for me to the very highest consecration. Was mich am meisten fasziniert ist, wie klar hier bei aller Vergleichbarkeit die Unterschiede zwischen Trinidad und Guyana Stock zum Tragen kommen - die Trinidad-Fässer bringen einen pointierten adstringierenden Charakter ein, der im ersten Moment schnell überfordernd wirken kann, de facto aber eine gänzlich andere Facette der 96er Caronis aufscheinen lässt und ein Feuerwerk an Aromatik eröffnet. A little less racy and vigorous than its green-label brother. Explosion of flavors on the palate with everything there was on the nose, plus some bitterness and a little saltiness/acidity. Beautiful tropical fruits and dried fruit blends. A finish marked by wood, (this must be an aged rum) and clearly long. Quite an experience to have the chance to taste this rum, whose aromas evolve as time goes by. Fascinating! Better than its green-labeled brother, but the difference is much less clear-cut than on first tasting. More freshness and more complex aromas. The empty glass also reveals unsuspected aromas."

There's a certain heaviness on the palate and a syrupy texture. The profile remains dominated by woody flavors, chocolate, exotic fruits, spices, nuts and caramel. The alcohol is well integrated, though not completely unnoticed. The length on the palate is correct. The calm of the nose is restored, with similar flavors. Warmth and toastiness on the finish are not unpleasant. All in all, a very respectable Single Cask, but one that lacks the expression and depth to be at the top of its class, both for its terroir and for its bottler."

Old tar, used to dampen the boards of sailing boats, and spruce too. The palate follows the nose quite closely, with a slight tartness: old tar and varnished wood. The finish is very long, both powerful and elegant, woody to the point of madness, but balanced thanks to the menthol. There's even a hint of salinity on the finish. A rum that tells a story of sailing ships, fragrant warehouses, old ropes and the sea. Splendid!"
