"#5 RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: fruits (apricot, cocconut, banana), fruity, woody M: spicy, woody, astrigend, roasted, minty F: oak, vanilla, caramel Prediction: guyana maybe (had some appleton estate in mind, but with that tastes… i‘m unsure) , approx. 55-60%…. totally wrong 🙈 Update: Still the beste AE Hearts for me An amazing Appelton Estate! It has a nice burnt umber color and oily tears. The first impression is a smell of glue and different fruits, the typical Jamaican/appleton smell. For sure this one needs time to fully open. In mouth it has a bitter, complex, ginger, tropical fruits… and low ester. The finish is a warm, dry, salty, woody, vanilla with a bit of orange. Resume: Best of Appelton so far!"

"Reminiscent of a T.D.L with some REV through the mint/black tea note. Adds a great and heavy barrel influence due to the tropical aging. After some time grapefruit, herbs and some glue come in. The alcohol is very well integrated. An almost endless finish. Lots to discover here. Great. My #2 from the Hearts Collection!"

Top review from Joachim Guger:
"Beautiful, red-golden color. Glue, licorice, tropical fruits, ginger, spices. Chocolate and oranges. Powerful, well balanced. Mouth-filling, tropical fruits, spicy, gingerbread, dark malt. Warm, long finish. An outstanding rum. Clearly in line with the series and one of the better ones. Its profile lies between 2003 (fruity) and 1999 (liquorice). Long tropical ageing without any lignification testifies to high craftsmanship. The music: the soundtrack by Dr.No."

Hearts Collection - 2002
Top review from Oliver:
"On the nose a great combination of fruits (cherry, apples, mango), citrus and sweet notes (caramel, vanilla). Quite dry on the palate with red fruits (cherries again) and spicy wood notes. Little esters, but a pronounced spiciness and creaminess. Great Jamaican rum with little funk but power."

Top review from Christoph:
"I love this oak forest. There are other unicorns besides the 1986 WIRD. You walk in a very old oak forest, fresh resin on the nose (the couch potato could also say glue), some orange keeps in the background, humus-rich forest floor on which grows damp moss. The taste continues with a pleasant bitterness for wood lovers, dried fruits keep in the background. Too much fruit here would also destroy the flair of the forest. With time in the glass, leather and vanilla come through more strongly. The finish is extremely long lasting, complemented by tobacco. Disappointed here who expects a maximum of complexity which is simply not very pronounced."

Top review from Joachim Guger:
"The nose is dominated by solvents, polish, then tropical fruit, citrus, tobacco. The 25 years of tropical maturity is hardly noticeable. Very nice.In the mouth then much more wood. Long, complex finish , now more caramel and dried fruit.Very complex, easy drinking.Appleton I would not have recognized here, I can not help myself, the rum reminds me strongly of a 45% Caroni minus rubber and tar.😉Not for full proof gladiators, but that was not the intention here. It should be a great sipper, he is then also.Certain recognition value with the 95 Hearts."

Top review from SaibotZtar :
"It is already a polarizing rum. Personally, I like it very much because it is simply quite different from all other Appleton's. Lots of fruit, esters, honey but very little wood. A few bitter notes. Pure is good to drink even if not overdimensionally complex but just different. In the Mai Tai he delivers a good final product if he is also here (maybe it's because of the expectations or also because you already had incredibly good stuff in the MT) not really the bringer. The price I leave out (that would correct the rating strongly down) because I want to evaluate the pleasure not the price!!!"

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"With a medium to long finish, Appleton Estate has managed to up the ante through the versions of the 21 year one. I have tried the previous ones and still have the last one released which I had to compare in a side by side comparison, and this one is better. The fruity side with spices is there with the woody tones which is then finished off by chocolate and coffee and a hint of tobacco. Lightly, very lightly dry and overall rounded and well balanced. The natural sweetness is also amazing. Price to quality is very good and I've already ordered backup bottles :-) 30.01.2022 Enjoying it again and still stand by my score. Wonderful release especially when looking at the price tag."

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This new release is more on the roasted side than the other ones. Lightly fruity with vanilla and wonderful caramel. On the palate there is wonderful roasted wood and I find it nice and round with and oily feel on the tongue. Price to quality is very good in my mind."

"An der Nase dachte ich wirklich noch es könnte ein Appleton sein. Geschmacklich dann aber absolut klar für mich ein Clarendon 2007. Erinnert mich sehr stark an den von Bellamy's. Extrem frisch und mentholig, holzig und medizinisch, leicht an Schuh Politur erinnernd. Insgesamt auch relativ alkoholisch..."

Top review from Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰:
"This one is better than the regular 12 year old and a very nice surprise. I also like the shape of the bottle. Oak from nose to finish, very fresh with fruits and spices. This is a sipper and not a mixer. Price to quality is very good."

Top review from Stefan Persson:
"A very good everyday rum. The nose is rather round but mostly woody and fruity with a little spiciness and a little roasted. At the palate the aromas comes back rather strongly as flavors (except for the roastiness) with a certain sweetness."
Blackwell Black Gold
Top review from Sam 🥃 :
"First Jamaican rum that I could taste. I find it good and very accessible considering its price. In spite of its 40%, I find the alcohol a bit too pronounced and I also regret the semi-opaque bottle. But it's a good start to discover Jamaican rums, with flavors, like coffee, chocolate, tobacco...I find the nose better than the mouth. The history of a rum is just as interesting as its aromatic palette, sometimes more. In the history of Blackwell, there is Bob Marley, James Bond, and Joy Spence the Master Blender of the Appleton Estate brand. It is interesting to note that by buying Blackwell rum a portion is donated to the Golden Eye Foundation in Oracabessa which acts in favor of the population and biodiversity of the bay. Nice anyway"

Top review from Thunderbird:
"Johannes Blindtasting Set Nr.8: Die Nase ist recht verhalten, ganz dünn nehme ich etwas Papaya, Ester und dunkles Karamell wahr. Am Gaumen anfangs recht viel Süße, dann scharfe Würze und etwas Kräuter, den Alkohol empfinde ich als nicht allzu gut eingebunden und sehr stark. Der Abgang ist mehr auf der kräuterigen Seite"

"02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the second half of the tastings. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, faint smoke, coconut, citrus, spice. Palate Round, wood, tannins, light smoke, fruity, banana, citrus, faint coffee, warm. Finish Medium long, wood, tannins, orange, light nutts, faint coconut."
